CD Projekt RED mobilizes 'huge' force to develop new The Witcher project

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên01/12/2023

According to Neowin, over a year ago, CD Projekt RED shared that there was a new The Witcher game in development at the studio. Later, it was revealed that the company was planning a brand new trilogy of games, described as "a story-driven open -world RPG that builds on the legacy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ." Now, with 2024 on the horizon, the project's development is much more robust.

The company's latest earnings report revealed that nearly half of the studio's development team, some 330 employees, are currently working on The Witcher sequel (project Polaris). CEO Adam Kiciński expects that number to increase to 400 by mid-2024 when the team working on the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion moves in. However, a release date for the RPG project, titled Polaris, has not been revealed.

Over 300 CD Projekt RED developers are working on the new The Witcher project

The previous main trilogy ended in 2015 with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt . The new trilogy will feature a new Witcher from a different school, based on early teaser images that show a completely different medallion than Geralt's iconic medallion from the Wolf School.

CD Projekt RED is also switching to Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 for all of its future projects, replacing the REDengine that powered most of its previous games. The studio's upcoming projects include a new The Witcher trilogy, a remake of the original The Witcher, and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 .

Nearly 10 years after its release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to receive official modding tools next year. With CD Projekt now fully transitioning to Unreal Engine 5, it seems the studio wants to announce and open up REDengine 3 for the community to tinker with.
