La Liga players unanimously reject 'Plan Miami'. |
In a meeting lasting more than an hour with the Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE), all 20 captains of First Division clubs voted unanimously to oppose this, considering it a disrespectful act and demanding transparency from the organizing committee.
According to the AFE statement, La Liga refused to provide a detailed report on the plan, only promising to notify when UEFA and FIFA approve the move of the match outside Spain. This has made players unhappy, because a series of questions about team selection criteria, revenue sharing, travel conditions, insurance, etc. have not been answered.
“Without dialogue, without information, we will not play,” the captains affirmed. AFE believes that launching the project and approving it at the RFEF Board of Directors without consulting the players is an act of disrespect for workers, and will lead to professional and legal changes.
The absolute unity of the captains is seen as a strong signal to the organizers: today it is only Villarreal and Barcelona, but tomorrow any club could be affected. “We are united. We need respect and transparency,” the players declared.
The message was clear: if La Liga wanted to take the game to the US, they would have to start from scratch with the people who played on the pitch. Without the players, there would be no game.
