Muong Thanh green rice fields glow red on National Day September 2

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, on the road in the middle of Muong Thanh field (the largest rice field in the Northwest) about 500m long, in Muong Thanh ward, Dien Bien province, hundreds of national flags were planted straight, creating a heroic and beautiful scene.

Amidst the vast rice fields interspersed with the green of rice, the road with red flags and yellow stars stands out like a silk strip, attracting many people to visit and take pictures.

This road covered with national flags was completed by Dien Bien Provincial Youth Union in coordination with Dien Bien Tourism Company Limited and local people at noon on August 23. About 200 national flags were planted along the road at a distance of 5m between each flag, creating uniformity and solemnity.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Phan Thach Thanh - Director of Dien Bien Tourism Company Limited and the local leader, who initiated the idea - said: "This project has been incubated for about a month now. The closer we get to the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2, the more exciting and eager the atmosphere across the country becomes, urging us to quickly implement it."

Muong Thanh field was chosen because of its flat terrain, located right near the provincial administrative center. In less than a week, the preparation and flag-raising work was completed.

The total estimated cost for the national flag road project (at Muong Thanh field and Pu Nhi commune terraced fields, to be implemented next week) is about 10 million VND for 400 flags.

“In addition to the unit contributing to buy the flags, the project also received support of more than 5 million VND from the online community when I shared the idea on my personal Facebook page,” said Mr. Thanh.

As a tourism worker, Mr. Thanh said he did not think the project would be so warmly received by locals and young people.

“Seeing Facebook flooded with people checking in makes me extremely excited. This will be the motivation to create more meaningful programs and events in the future, contributing to the development of Dien Bien province,” said Mr. Thanh.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh (37 years old, a freelance photographer in Dien Bien) - said: "This is an extremely meaningful activity, helping young people express their patriotism, keep up with trends and promote tourism for Dien Bien. Just implemented, the number of people flocking here is very large, mostly young people".

Among those who learned about this unique road through social networks, Ms. Mai Hai Yen (Muong Thanh ward) and her friends got dressed up and went to take pictures on the afternoon of August 23.

“This road is very beautiful, whether it is green rice season or ripe rice season. There are many people coming to take pictures, everyone happily waits for their turn so that everyone can have satisfactory photos,” said Ms. Yen.

According to Mr. Lo Xuan Hanh - Deputy Secretary of Dien Bien Provincial Youth Union, the national flag road is not only a beautiful image but also a message of solidarity and joint efforts of the youth. About 20 union members and youths of Muong Thanh ward were mobilized to plant the flag.

“This is also a form of visual propaganda about historical traditions, arousing patriotism. The national flag road will attract people to take beautiful photos, spreading the spirit of national pride. The Provincial Youth Union also hopes that when checking in, everyone will join hands to maintain hygiene and the general landscape,” Mr. Hanh added.
