Recently, a BYD M9 has suddenly appeared in Vietnam, the location of this plug-hybrid MPV is District 7 (HCMC). Most likely, in the near future, this model will be launched in Vietnam. The BYD M9 (domestic name BYD Xia) was first introduced to the public at the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show. This model has a multi-purpose MPV body with sliding doors on both sides, along with a modern plug-in hybrid powertrain. The car will be sold from January 2025 in China and will begin exporting from June. Mexico is the first market to receive the M9.
BYD M9 is about to be revealed. If brought to Vietnam, the M9 model will be positioned higher than the current M6 model. The car has dimensions of Length x Width x Height: 5,145 x 1,970 x 1,805 (mm), wheelbase 3,045mm. The exterior design stands out with a large radiator grille with horizontal chrome bars. In some markets, the grille will have vertical chrome bars, along with large block headlights and a characteristic chrome "dragon beard" detail. The car uses multi-spoke alloy wheels, traditional door handles, horizontal taillights, the rear door has the M9 logo and the DM-i lettering symbolizing the powertrain. Inside the cabin, the M9 features BYD’s latest “Dynasty” design language. In different markets, the car comes in two-tone interiors such as brown-beige or blue-beige.
Notable amenities include a 15.6-inch floating center screen, a 12.3-inch dashboard and passenger screens. The car is also equipped with a folding work table, refrigerator and ceiling screen. In terms of operation, the BYD M9 is equipped with a DM 5.0 plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine with a capacity of 154 horsepower and a 200kW electric motor. The car has two battery capacity options: 20.4kWh or 36.6kWh, for a pure electric range of 100 - 180km according to CLTC standards. This system allows the car to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 8.1 seconds and a total operating range of 945km.
BYD M9 will compete in the large MPV segment in Vietnam with models such as Kia Carnival, Toyota Sienna, GAC M8 but will have a "softer" price but much more modern equipment and technology. In China, BYD Xia is priced from 249,800 - 309,800 yuan (about 911 - 1.13 billion VND), significantly cheaper than the same high-end minivan model, Denza D9 (from 1.2 - 1.7 billion VND). It is predicted that when it comes to Vietnam, BYD M9 will be priced from about 1.7 billion VND.
