Stay up until 1am to study for the exam
Born with a healthy body, Gia Lam unfortunately suffered from congenital heart disease. At the age of 2, Lam had to undergo surgery for intervention, but later serious complications forced him to have all four limbs amputated to continue living. However, this disadvantage could not prevent the male student from accessing the path of education and he has officially registered as one of the candidates for the high school graduation exam this year.
Sharing in the exam room prepared for him and with support staff, Lam said he considered the high school graduation exam "very important" and had fully prepared his knowledge for the upcoming exam days. "This morning, I still woke up to practice and review the formulas I had learned. On exam review days, I often stayed up until 1 a.m. to practice. Today, my feelings are hard to describe," Lam said.
Gia Lam said he often studies until morning to prepare for the high school graduation exam.

Despite having lost all four limbs, Lam affirmed that he still wanted to write by himself, even though he knew that his writing speed would not be as fast as his friends. This is also something he has practiced since he was 5 years old and it took him nearly a year to get used to. "Writing by himself, especially in literature, also helps me to clearly express the ideas I want to convey. This would be more difficult to do if I just read and ask the teacher to write it down for me," the male student shared.
"Even though it's slow, I think I'm still capable of completing the test on time," Lam said, adding that she has the most difficulty with math, so this will be the subject she will focus on in the near future. "I often take short naps of at least 5 minutes, up to an hour between review sessions to have the best learning spirit," Lam said about her method of relieving stress.
Gia Lam is arranged to take the exam in a private room with support from a teacher.

Companionship from mother
Taking Gia Lam to the exam site today and the next two days is a petite woman with a strong heart, Ms. Nguyen Thi Manh, Lam's mother. Talking in the schoolyard while waiting for Lam to complete the exam procedures, Ms. Manh said that over the past time, she has witnessed all of her son's efforts on the path of studying.
"She tried very hard to study, whether it was morning or night, she saw her friends practicing for the exam. Seeing that, I could only remind and encourage her to have a better exam spirit," she recalled.
Like many other mothers, Ms. Manh also has a small wish that her son can conquer the university journey and then graduate smoothly, "giving him a job to support himself". "Today and the next few days, I will take my son to the exam, because having me by his side will help him feel less self-conscious", she confided.
The image of her accompanying her child through adversity, the volunteers carrying Gia Lam radiantly to the exam room, the admiring eyes directed at the determined student, all create a beautiful picture of hope, pride and the spirit of overcoming difficulties.

Sharing about his university aspirations, Gia Lam said he chose to pursue graphic design. "I want to study this major because I hope to be able to express my personality and story through design products. Besides, this job also allows me to be creative at all times instead of having to do repetitive work," Lam said, adding that depending on his exam scores, he will "finalize" the appropriate school.
Every day, Gia Lam is also taken care of by his twin brother Nguyen Gia Hung, from eating, changing clothes and taking him to school. That is the determination that Hung has kept in mind since he began to realize his brother's difference. "I am very happy because I can help my brother so that my parents can focus on their business," Hung shared.
