RT reported on June 8 that California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized President Trump's decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles, calling the move "intentionally provocative" and warning that it would lead to an escalation of violence.
“The federal government is sowing chaos so they (protesters) have an excuse to escalate. That is not how any civilized country behaves,” Governor Newsom said.

In a post on X network, Governor Newsom called on protesters to "speak out peacefully " and warned against using violence.
He deployed California Highway Patrol officers on June 7 to maintain safety on Los Angeles freeways, but stressed that: "Supporting federal immigration enforcement is not the mission of the California Highway Patrol."

Earlier, on June 7, President Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, California, after violent protests against immigration raids took place there.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Trump signed a presidential memorandum authorizing the deployment of the National Guard, citing attacks on ICE officers and “ongoing lawlessness.” She reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on violence against law enforcement.
