A meal filled with love from parents in the 'field dormitory' during exam season

The June weather turned hot and humid after days of heavy rain. In the school's makeshift kitchen, dozens of parents were busy preparing dinner, some cutting meat, others washing vegetables... waiting for their children to complete the exam procedures.

Nguyen Thi Van Anh and Ngo Huong Giang, both in class 12C at Son Dong High School No. 3, shared that they had prepared blankets, pillows, and mattresses to go to Cam Dan Middle School since yesterday.

Before the 2025 high school graduation exam officially took place, nearly 30 parents and teachers of Son Dong High School No. 3 (Son Dong District, Bac Giang ) packed their bags and took the bus to Cam Dan Secondary School, about 20km from the school, to stay and eat during the exam days.

Mr. Pham Manh Hung - Vice Principal of Son Dong High School No. 3 - said that the weather has been erratic in recent days. To ensure the safety of students during exam season, especially those living in the hamlets and villages who have to cross rivers, streams, and culverts, the school board and parents agreed to rent a bus to take 144 students to "lodge".

Before that, the school worked with the Cam Dan Commune Party Committee to arrange medical staff and police to support the students taking the exam and arrange 14 spacious and clean classrooms. Knowing that the students were coming to take the exam, the surrounding households also brought local products such as lychees and clean vegetables to donate to the "field" kitchen run by the parents.

"Because the students live together, two other teachers and I were assigned to closely monitor the classes, ensuring that they are reminded to be regular, punctual, and safe throughout the exam period," said Mr. Hung.

Students bring blankets, mosquito nets, pillows... to feel at home.

Ms. Hoang Thi Luong - Secretary of the Youth Union of Son Dong 3 High School - shared that the students were very excited and confident before the exam day. Before getting on the bus to the exam accommodation, the school's Youth Union mobilized young volunteers to accompany and support the students in moving their personal belongings and preparing a full projection screen.

"Many children shared that this was a memorable experience, the beginning before leaving their parents' arms. Before, many children usually went to school near their school, so this was the first time they went far away, so they were all excited," said Ms. Hoang Thi Luong.

Candidates staying at Cam Dan Secondary School on their way to complete procedures for the high school graduation exam through a road filled with lychees - a specialty tree in Bac Giang.

Mr. Bui Van Toan - parent of Bui Thao Van - shared that 100% of parents support the plan to send their children to a school near the exam site to stay because the road for many children is difficult, in the neighborhood, they have to go through tunnels, dangerous streams, and "when the water is high, they cannot cross". "Before that, the parents' committee and the school board met to discuss the menu for the children to ensure cleanliness and nutrition. On the first day, the parents prepared many hearty dishes for their children such as boiled chicken, fried pork, stir-fried water spinach, steamed shrimp...", said Mr. Toan.

Ms. Pham Thi Oanh - Lao Truc Thy's parent - confided that each family has its own circumstances, some are civil servants, some are farmers, and it is the lychee season here, but everyone takes the time to take their children to their rented accommodation or take advantage of the late afternoon to visit their children. Today, the parents prepared more than 30kg of fresh chicken, 25kg of pork, 13kg of shrimp... to treat their children to the most delicious meal.

"At first, there were families with good conditions who wanted to send their children themselves, but the parents' committee and the school encouraged and explained things reasonably, so 100% agreed to let their children stay in the center. Many children live far away and have to cross streams. Every time it rains heavily, the water floods the road, sometimes the water is as high as a meter like in Ga village, Neo village, Thanh Ha village. Children go to school to 'stay', with parents taking care of them, taking care of every meal and sleep so that they can focus on their exams," Ms. Oanh confided.

At 5:30 p.m., when the sun was gradually setting, long lines of students went down to the multi-purpose gymnasium, arranged themselves into trays of food as if they were going to a feast, and enjoyed the delicious dishes that their parents had spent all day working on.

After the day of completing the procedures for the high school graduation exam, tomorrow, candidates nationwide will take the first subject, literature.

9,798 candidates were absent during the exam registration procedure session.

According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, on the afternoon of June 25, 1,152,336 candidates completed exam procedures (the number of candidates registered for the exam was 1,162,134), reaching 99.16%.

Of which, the 2006 generaleducation program had 22,140 candidates completing exam procedures, reaching 88.73%; the 2018 general education program had 1,130,196 candidates completing exam procedures, reaching 99.54%.

According to regulations, candidates who have not completed the exam procedures on June 25 can go to the exam locations on the morning of June 26 to complete the procedures before taking the first exam.
