OCop products: Dong Dan turmeric powder and tapioca starch powder

Dong Dan arrowroot powder and Dong Dan turmeric powder were displayed in a small corner of the booth on the sidelines of those events, but attracted many delegates and customers to learn about the products because they contain many trace elements and are beneficial for health, especially for the elderly.

Sharing the story of his family's start-up from familiar agricultural products, Mr. Le Minh The said: When he got married, Mr. The and his wife took advantage of the land of both parents to grow crops such as green black beans, peanuts, red turmeric, and arrowroot. When it came to harvest season, only legumes were consumed locally, while fresh tubers such as red turmeric and arrowroot had a fairly high yield (1 ton/sao) in the far-away fields, costing a lot of transportation costs, so they were not interested by retailers, the price was too low, and the income was not much. "At that time, I started thinking about processing arrowroot and turmeric, the family's available raw materials, into starch form, which could be preserved for a long time and sold at a good price, which would bring higher efficiency than selling fresh tubers at cheap prices for a long time," Mr. The shared.

Thinking is doing, Mr. The researched and learned about starch processing processes, discussed with his family to invest in machinery and equipment to support the starch production and processing process. He also took advantage of the available raw materials from his family's fields and bought more from local people to have a source of tapioca starch processing all year round.

After several trials, Mr. The's family has produced by hand the finished product of dried Dong Dan arrowroot powder and dry, smooth turmeric powder. The powders are difficult to form into large blocks, have a characteristic aroma of starchy tubers, and support daily nutrition. The product is supported and consumed by local people. Gradually, the carefully packaged, eye-catching products with guaranteed quality have attracted more customers from near and far in and outside the province ( Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai). Mr. Tran Van Quy, Village 2, Bac Ruong Commune, said: "I often use Dong Dan arrowroot powder to make a drink every morning, supporting nutrition for the elderly. According to medicine, arrowroot powder has low calories, useful for people who want to lose weight."

In addition, tapioca starch is also used as an ingredient to prepare dishes such as: sweet soup, baby food, cakes (Tet cakes)... Not long after starting up, Dong Dan turmeric starch business household owned by Mr. The, with 2 main products: Dong Dan tapioca starch, Dong Dan turmeric starch achieved 3-star OCOP product; typical rural industrial product at the provincial level in 2022, 2024; typical rural industrial product at the Southern region level in 2024; Third prize for startup ideas organized by Binh Thuan Provincial Youth Union (old) in 2022; First prize for startup ideas organized by Tanh Linh district (old), has created more motivation for the family in this startup model.

According to Ms. Le Thi Tham (Mr. Le Minh The's wife), the family will continue to research and produce products to bring to the market in the direction of green transformation, good for the community in protecting consumers' health, contributing to improving the quality of indigenous resource products of Bac Ruong commune.
