Elevate and innovate in medical examination and treatment
In the context of the country's health sector moving towards comprehensive development, Vi Xuyen Regional General Hospital, as a grade II hospital with a total of 20 departments/rooms, including clinical, paraclinical and functional departments, has built a professional and effective operating apparatus.
Notably, although the planned target is 200 beds, the actual number of beds in the hospital in the first 6 months of 2025 has reached 265 beds, even up to 280 beds in 2024. What is special is that, despite the increase in the number of beds, the hospital always commits to not having patients sharing beds, ensuring comfort, meeting the health care needs of not only the people of Vi Xuyen area but also neighboring areas.
Not only stopping at developing scale, the Hospital also focuses on investing in modern equipment to improve diagnostic and treatment capacity. In 2024, the echocardiogram machine was put into use, along with the approval of 155 new technical services, significantly expanding the list of tests and procedures that the Hospital can perform. Therefore, in 2024, the Hospital performed more than 57,000 medical examinations and treatments, exceeding the plan by 6,000, the bed capacity reached 115.8%, and the referral rate decreased sharply.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the total number of medical examinations reached 28,131 - equal to 55.15% of the annual plan and an increase of 928 compared to the same period in 2024, with a bed occupancy rate of 84.6%. More importantly, the hospital's referral rate has decreased significantly, to only 2.17% in the first 6 months of 2025, much lower than the target of <4.5%. In addition, the hospital has successfully organized military service examinations for nearly 200 new recruits in 2025, while screening people with disabilities and providing free medicine to nearly 500 people in border communes.
In the context of increasing infectious diseases such as measles, flu, hand, foot and mouth disease, the Hospital has proactively developed and strictly implemented disease response plans, contributing to protecting the community. These telling figures are clear evidence of the Hospital's increasingly improved treatment capacity and people's trust in the quality of primary health care. This helps people receive health care right at their locality, reducing the burden of costs and travel.
The “key” to human resources and the digital revolution in healthcare
People are always the most valuable asset of any organization, and in the healthcare industry, this is even more true. Vi Xuyen Regional General Hospital pays special attention to developing high-quality human resources. With 152 officers, civil servants and employees, including 35 doctors (2 Specialist II, 21 Specialist I and Masters), 66 nurses (mostly bachelors), and staff specializing in pharmacy, midwifery, and medical technology. This team is constantly trained and improved.
Many doctors and nurses have been participating in specialized training courses at Bach Mai Hospital and the Provincial General Hospital on emergency resuscitation, echocardiography, anesthesia assistant, surgical assistant, and stroke treatment. The unit has also piloted electroencephalogram and fine needle aspiration cytology – opening up a direction for specialized development. The "hands-on" training right at the hospital, along with sending staff for long-term study, has helped the medical team here quickly absorb and master new techniques, better meeting increasingly complex professional requirements.
Along with improving the quality of human resources is a strong digital transformation revolution taking place at the Hospital. The deployment of information technology (IT) applications not only shortens waiting time, reduces administrative procedures for patients, but also greatly improves productivity, financial transparency, enhances management capacity and monitors treatment quality. The Hospital has resolutely implemented administrative reform and Project 06 of the Government . The hospital management software HIS 6.0 has been upgraded and operated stably, creating a solid foundation for management work.
Services such as printing hospital discharge papers, health examination papers, electronic prescriptions, electronic invoices, etc. have achieved an implementation rate of over 95%, demonstrating the determination and practical effectiveness in local health administrative reform. In particular, the Hospital has installed and put into use a Smart Medical Kiosk since December 2024, along with the roadmap in 2025, the hospital invited experts to survey IT infrastructure, develop a Project to request funding for investment in IT infrastructure, medical equipment and improve digital human resources capacity, deploy electronic medical records, aiming to form a Smart Hospital ecosystem in the locality.
The goal is to achieve over 80% of patients using their citizen identification cards instead of health insurance cards, making electronic bill payments, and pushing electronic prescriptions, issuing birth certificates, and driving health certificates to 100% on the Health Insurance Appraisal Interconnection System. These efforts not only improve management efficiency, reduce administrative procedures, but also bring maximum convenience to patients, moving towards a smart, modern healthcare system.
