Arsenal is like a 'tiger with wings' when having Gyokeres

Finally, one of the most anticipated contracts of the summer of 2025 has been concluded: Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres moves from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal. The transfer fee is not too high, but this is really a blockbuster contract!

X THE LAST PIECE APPEARS, AFTER YEARS OF SEARCHING

Three consecutive seasons have passed, with Arsenal being runners-up in the Premier League. In the last two seasons, Arsenal has always been the team with the most solid defense in the league. It is not difficult to understand why people always answer the question of why Arsenal has not been able to win the championship: the attack is not standard, specifically Arsenal always lacks a real goalscorer - the "number 9" striker, as people often say.

So, Viktor Gyokeres can be seen as the final piece that coach Mikel Arteta has been patiently searching for for a very long time, not just this summer.

Arsenal can count on Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Lenadro Trossard up front; or Martin Odegaard from midfield; even Gabriel Magalhaes from defence. Call it 'all-round' scoring. Arsenal can also count on headers from set-pieces. But in short, this is a team that has no striker. And that has been one of the most popular talking points in the Premier League over the past few seasons.

Now, in principle, Arteta needs nothing more, having signed Gyokeres for an initial £55m. Even if the add-ons materialise, a total of £64m for one of the hottest strikers in top-flight football is still a reasonable price. It is certainly the moment when Arteta’s team will be rated the highest they have ever been, before the Premier League starts.

WAITING IS HAPPINESS!

Gyokeres is leaving Sporting Lisbon - that was clear from the start of last season. The question is where he is going, and when the transfer will be made official. It has been one of the longest-negotiated deals of the transfer window.

No one paid much attention to Gyokeres when he played for Coventry in the second division two years ago (and at the age of 25). Suddenly, Sporting Lisbon spent 20 million euros (the club's transfer record) to buy Gyokeres back from Coventry, at the request of coach Ruben Amorim. And suddenly, Gyokeres shone with 68 goals in just 66 matches in the national championship, helping Sporting Lisbon win the championship in both of the last two seasons.

He scored and won the Man of the Match award in his first Champions League appearance. He scored a hat-trick against the world's number one club (at that time) Man.City, helping Sporting Lisbon win 4-1! Before Gyokeres, only one other Swedish player had scored a hat-trick in the Champions League, the famous Zlatan Ibrahimovic. From then on, every big club wanted Gyokeres. More than anyone, Arsenal fans dreamed of having this striker.

Playing as a centre-forward in Sporting Lisbon's 4-3-3 formation, Gyokeres exploits the space between the opposition defenders, with the goal-scoring instinct of a true striker. He finishes accurately from the first touch. When in possession of the ball in the penalty area, Gyokeres makes no wasted movements. He is good at playing high or low balls, and receives the ball neatly from the wing or the middle. The "nerds" in top football are truly overwhelmed when looking at the heatmap and statistics of Gyokeres' activities in front of the opponent's goal.

With Gyokeres, Arsenal has... everything. At least, that's the theory. Now, Arsenal fans are just impatiently waiting for the opening day of the new season, to see how effective the theory "Arsenal have a real striker" is.
