On the morning of August 30, Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Van Khiem - Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the tropical depression in the northwest sea of ​​the North East Sea has strengthened into a storm - storm number 6 (international name is Nongfa).

At 7:00 a.m., the center of the storm was at about 17.7 degrees North latitude; 108.4 degrees East longitude, in the sea area of ​​Ha Tinh - Hue city, about 210km east of the northern area of ​​Quang Tri. The strongest wind near the center of the storm was level 8 (62-74km/h), gusting to level 10. Moving in the West Northwest direction at a speed of about 20km/h.

At 7:00 p.m. on August 30, the storm moved west-northwest at a speed of about 20km/h with strong winds of level 7, gusting to level 9, making landfall in Ha Tinh and Quang Tri provinces and gradually weakening into a tropical depression. The affected area is the western part of the North East Sea, the sea area from Thanh Hoa to Da Nang city (including Hon Ngu island, Con Co special zone). Disaster risk level 3.

At 7:00 a.m. on August 31, the tropical depression in Central Laos moved west-northwest at a speed of about 20 km/h, with winds below level 6, moving deep into the mainland and weakening into a low-pressure area. The affected area is the sea from Thanh Hoa to Hue city (including Hon Ngu island, Con Co special zone). Disaster risk level 3.

Due to the impact of the storm, the western sea area of ​​the North East Sea has strong winds of level 6-7, waves of 2.0-4.5m high, and rough seas. The sea area from Thanh Hoa to Hue city (including Hon Ngu island and Con Co special zone) has stormy rain, strong winds of level 6-7, areas near the eye of the storm have strong winds of level 8, gusts of level 10, waves of 2-4m high, areas near the eye of the storm have waves of 3-5m high, rough seas.

Coastal areas from Nghe An to Hue city have water levels rising from 0.2-0.4m.

Mr. Mai Van Khiem warned that the weather at sea and in coastal areas is very dangerous and unsafe for vehicles and structures operating in dangerous areas such as: tourist boats, passenger ships, transport ships, cages, rafts, and aquaculture areas.

From noon on August 30, on the mainland coastal provinces from Nghe An to Quang Tri, the wind will gradually increase to level 6, gusting to level 8; in the mainland coastal areas of Ha Tinh - Northern Quang Tri, it will be level 6-7, near the storm center, it will be level 8, gusting to level 10.

"From now on, strong thunderstorms with tornadoes may appear, before the tropical depression/storm has a direct impact," Mr. Mai Van Khiem noted.
