Anker has just announced a recall of the PowerCore 10000 backup battery (product code A1263) due to "potential issues with the lithium-ion battery that could pose a fire or explosion hazard."
According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC), users in the US have reported a total of 19 fires and explosions related to this type of backup battery, causing some minor burns to users and an estimated total property damage of $60,700.
The recall applies to approximately 1.15 million power bank products that were sold online in the US through e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, eBay and Newegg from June 2016 to December 2022.
Affected power banks can be identified by the Anker logo engraved on the side and the model number A1263 printed on the bottom edge.

Anker only recalls and exchanges eligible products sold in the US for free. However, this type of backup battery is also widely distributed in Vietnam through e-commerce platforms.
Therefore, users in Vietnam who are using PowerCore 10000 rechargeable battery with model number A1263, should stop using the product to prevent the risk of accidents due to fire and explosion.

Users should not throw this backup battery in the trash, but should find a safe lithium-ion battery recycling or collection location in their area.
In case you cannot find a place to recycle the product, do not charge and continue to use this rechargeable battery, but should store it in a plastic box, place it in a safe, visible location and away from flammable objects to prevent accidents.
In fact, backup batteries, like many other devices using lithium-ion batteries, will gradually lose their durability after a long period of use.
Therefore, if you regularly use this device, pay attention to unusual signs such as overheating, swollen battery that deforms the shell... to promptly stop using it and avoid unfortunate incidents.
During use, never place the power bank in places with high temperatures or exposed to direct sunlight, such as in a car parked under the hot sun or in the trunk of a motorbike. Such conditions can cause the battery to overheat and lead to the risk of fire or explosion.
Also, do not place the charging device under a pillow, in a blanket, mattress or other flammable material, as poor heat dissipation environments will increase the risk if a battery problem occurs.
Nowadays, power banks have become popular accessories and are relatively affordable. However, users should prioritize choosing products from reputable brands and strictly follow the instructions for use to ensure safety.
Finally, replacing the backup battery after a period of use is necessary to prevent deterioration that can potentially lead to fire or explosion.
