While not entirely satisfactory, Mr Sunak has succeeded in strengthening the special relationship between the two countries. From the perspective of strategic partners and allies, the US values the UK more than the EU. Conversely, the UK also values the US more than the EU. Brexit has created an opportunity for the US to make that choice and forced the UK to make that choice.

In the past four months alone, Prime Minister Sunak and US President Joe Biden have met four times. Not only has Mr Sunak not complained or objected – like the EU – to US industrial support and protectionist trade policies, but he has also integrated the UK into the US economic and trade orbit, demonstrating how important a place Sunak places on the US in British governance. Both sides have openly valued each other more than they value the EU.

This "one side is more important, the other is less important" policy is shown in that Washington and London not only accompany but also support each other in leading the West to support Kyiv and oppose Moscow and Beijing. If this continues, the US and the UK will continue to be the most prominent pair of power and influence in the West.
