Join hands to build charity houses

To implement the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, Tay Ninh has implemented two parallel projects: Repairing and building houses for poor and near-poor households according to the central standards and poor households according to the provincial poverty standards, and the project to support the construction and repair of houses for people with revolutionary contributions. Up to now, Tay Ninh has "reached the finish line" as planned, the houses have been handed over.

In the process of implementing the projects, in addition to the budget, the “For the Poor” Fund of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels and provinces also received huge contributions from people, businesses, and philanthropists. This shows that the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is a popular policy, promoting the strength of the great national unity bloc.

Central and provincial leaders attended the ceremony to hand over gratitude houses to veterans in the old Tan Chau district, including Ms. Duong Thi Thu Suong (front row, 2nd from left)

According to data from the Department of Home Affairs, in 2024 and the first 6 months of 2025, the province will build 171 new gratitude houses and repair 466 houses for war invalids and policy families. These houses are a symbol of trust in the social security policies of the Party and State, which are implemented synchronously in localities across the country.

In particular, the Veterans Association at the grassroots level has made efforts to support housing for its members. Up to now, Veterans Association members in the province who have difficulty with housing have been supported to build and repair houses, and no members have difficulty with housing. In Tan Ninh ward, Mr. Thai Ba Hai - Chairman of the Ward Veterans Association, said: In 2025, the Association was assigned to repair 2 houses, and so far, it has mobilized to repair 3 houses and build 4 new houses for members. Phuoc Vinh commune has 359 members, of which 43 are policy members. Policy members who have difficulty with housing have been supported. In Tan Chau commune, Mr. Nguyen Trong Dai - Chairman of the Commune Veterans Association, happily affirmed: Up to now, the whole commune has no members who have difficulty with housing. Thereby, helping members to be more stable and secure in their lives.

Every house a grateful heart

Through practical support, the houses of gratitude not only help families with preferential treatment to stabilize their housing in time but also bring great spiritual value. This support has helped them have more faith in life, feel not left behind and have great motivation to move forward in life.

The house of gratitude of the family of war invalid Nguyen Van Son (born in 1964, residing in Tan Ninh ward) was built 20 years ago, and has been quite damaged while the family is unable to repair or renovate. At the end of 2024, the Association of War Veterans of Ward 4 (old) considered supporting his family with the cost of building a new house from the central budget. With the support of capital, Mr. Son's children borrowed more money to build a house with enough area for the whole family. Although the house has only been completed in the rough, it brings great joy to his family.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Dai - Chairman of the Veterans Association of Tan Chau commune, shared joy with Ms. Duong Thi Thu Suong

In 1976, Ms. Duong Thi Thu Suong (born in 1957, residing in Thanh Quoi Hamlet, Tan Chau Commune) was demobilized. In 2007, she was given a Great Unity House. In 2024, she was considered for a house of gratitude by the Commune Veterans Association. On the occasion of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day in 2024, her family moved into a new house. The small house with a support of 160 million VND was a great joy for the family. Ms. Suong emotionally said: "Thank you for the attention of the Party, the government, and the sponsors. Having a house like this is very precious!". On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of At Ty in 2025, Ms. Suong's whole family gathered to celebrate the New Year in the new house with all the joy.

It has been nearly 20 years but the "House of Gratitude" signboard is still kept intact by war invalid Nguyen Quoc Hung (residing in Phuoc Trung hamlet, Phuoc Vinh commune). Mr. Hung said: "For me, this signboard is a source of pride, reminding me of a time when I contributed to my homeland and country."

Returning from the war in the Southwest border, Mr. Hung suffered a 57% disability. Overcoming difficulties, the war invalid still worked and produced actively. In 2008, Mr. Hung was given a house of gratitude by the local authorities. The house was small but warm, and was a result of the care of the Party committees and authorities at all levels. From the initial house of gratitude, 2 years later, he saved up to expand his living space.

Over time, the house gradually deteriorated, and recently, he was considered for support of 65 million VND to repair the house. The completed house was handed over about a month ago. On the brand new wall, Mr. Hung again hung up the certificates of merit that he had worked hard for during the past time as a lesson to his children and grandchildren about the spirit of continuous dedication. Mr. Hung expressed: "Thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, my family has a solid house". Up to now, at the age of 70, Mr. Hung still participates in the local association of War Veterans, Elderly People, etc.

The house of gratitude is the pride of Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung.

Each house of gratitude is a living testament to the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" of today's generation towards people with meritorious services and families with preferential policies. These warm houses are a source of pride and great encouragement to help families with preferential policies stabilize their lives and rise up in all circumstances. Thereby, it shows that today's generation has been continuing the good tradition, turning gratitude into practical actions, contributing to alleviating the losses and sacrifices of their fathers./.
