Market research firm IDC estimates that the impact of AI on the global economy will generate about $1.15 trillion in value by 2024.

By 2030, this figure is expected to increase nearly fivefold, to $5 trillion, largely due to increased revenue and cost reductions through automation, data-driven decision making, and improved operational efficiency. This is why experts believe that AI will be a core driver of global economic growth in the next decade.

From national strategy to corporate strategy, the ability to exploit and apply AI is determining global competitive position. AI has created a new economy called: the World AI Economy. This is no longer a futuristic concept – it has clearly taken shape, is creating value at an unprecedented speed and scale, and is gradually becoming a strategic priority for governments as well as leading businesses around the world.

Information given at the DCCI Summit 2025 event organized by Viettel IDC in Ho Chi Minh City recently, experts said that the strong increase in demand for using and applying AI has led to a significant increase in the requirement for developing digital infrastructure, including data centers, cloud computing platforms and high-speed connection networks.

According to a report by global consulting firm McKinsey, the growth rate of traditional data centers is about 7%. However, artificial intelligence is driving the growth rate of AI data centers to be more than 9 times higher (65%). The power load (gigawatts) in the next 5 years is forecast to increase 3.5 times compared to today with AI processing streams, while conventional processing streams only increase 1.7 times.

With the AI wave, businesses are also increasing investment in this field through deploying IoT (Internet of Things) solutions, human resource management, new business activities, etc.

Mr. Le Ba Tan - Director of Viettel IDC - said: "When businesses use AI services instead of developing them themselves, they can save at least 20% of costs with simple models. With large AI scales, costs can be saved up to several hundred percent."

At the event, businesses connected together, affirming the leading role of Ho Chi Minh City in the global digital economy. With its position as the largest economic and trading center in the country, attracting strong FDI and being a hub for logistics, production - export as well as a high-tech consumer market, Ho Chi Minh City is creating a boost for ICT infrastructure, Data Center and Cloud, becoming a regional digital technology center and a leading destination for Cloud, AI, Big Data services.

In addition, efforts from the Government are being transformed into specific mechanisms, policies and technological initiatives, also creating strong momentum for the development of the city's digital infrastructure, opening up a breakthrough period in the regional "digital race".
