That is the sharing in the Podcast "Journey to create the future" No. 3, produced by Tien Phong Newspaper in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Open University, with the topic: The field of study that goes ahead of the future, not replaced by AI .

AI does not replace humans – only replaces people who refuse to learn
Artificial intelligence is increasingly developing and penetrating into all fields, from medicine, education to media, engineering, etc. Many people are concerned that these technologies will overshadow human values, making people completely dependent, especially young people who are exposed to technology from an early age.
“We should not be afraid of machines replacing humans, we should be afraid of humans replacing humans, we have to ask ourselves whether anyone will replace us,” said Dr. Nguyen Huu Long, who believes that AI is just a tool, and all tools need human control.
If used properly, AI can save time, increase productivity, and open up opportunities for growth. But if we rely solely on technology without cultivating our own strengths, we can easily fall behind – especially young people who do not have enough knowledge to properly assess the role of AI.
Many universities are opening majors related to AI, data, innovation and digital media. Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport is an example with the Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence major – combining logistics, transportation, technology and digital economy .
AI cannot replace humans, but it will replace those who refuse to learn. Expert - Dr. Nguyen Huu Long shared more: "I strongly support new fields of study. They stimulate self-learning ability, arouse the spirit of progress and help us get closer to world knowledge."
These disciplines provide a foundation of knowledge on modern tools, thereby contributing to improving learners' understanding and application capacity in the process of social development. Effective access requires systematic training, along with regular interaction and practice.
Master AI or be led?
Using AI to find answers is not enough. Learners must turn those answers into their own knowledge. “I can read the rest of the sentence when students have only said half of it – because I have looked it up. What I expect is for them to come up with something new, instead of repeating it like a machine,” he shared.
In the digital age, AI will continue to develop. But humans are still at the center. It is understanding, aspiration and independent thinking that are the “shields” that help each individual not be controlled by technology.
Mastering machines starts with understanding how they work and how they are applied. When used properly, artificial intelligence can be an effective support tool, helping people save time and increase productivity. The three things needed are: understanding, clear goals, and a desire to develop.
This is also what Mr. Nguyen Huu Long often shares with students: “If you don’t have aspiration, even if you have 10 AI tools in hand, you still can’t get ahead. But if you have aspiration, understanding and passion for technology, you will know how to use technology as a springboard for creativity and development.”
He cited a teaching situation: “I ask students a question, and you use AI to answer. But the night before, I looked it up on Google and Chat GPT. I know all the answers, so before the students finish their sentences, I can read the rest. It’s not that I’m better, I’m just one step faster than you. So, what I expect is for you to turn that answer into your own words, language, and thinking – not just repeat it like a machine.”
To avoid that, young people need to develop their inner strength – that is, the ability to think independently, the will to learn, the desire to contribute and grow. Only with desire can there be the motivation to overcome, to learn, to master.
According to him, in order to not be led by technology, young people need to develop their inner strength – that is, the ability to think independently, the will to learn and the desire to contribute. “Only with desire can there be the motivation to learn, to mature and master technology.”
Artificial intelligence is increasingly penetrating every field, from healthcare, education to media and engineering. Many people are concerned that this technology will overshadow human values, but in fact, AI is just a product that proves humanity's outstanding ability to invent and create.
“Thus, to survive in the digital age, in today's era, we must always aim for development and take advantage of technological developments to self-train, self-study, self-measure our level, and especially have the courage to not let it control us.”, according to Dr. Nguyen Huu Long.
