According to the latest statistics from the Banking Association, the 10 banks with the largest charter capital include: Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank), Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank), Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Techcombank), Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development (BIDV), Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB), Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank), Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (ACB), Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank ( SHB ), Ho Chi Minh City Development Joint Stock Commercial Bank (HDBank) and Loc Phat Commercial Joint Stock Bank (LPBank).

Specifically, Vietcombank is the bank with the largest charter capital in the system, with VND 83,557 billion, an increase of 49% compared to the end of 2024. Previously, Vietcombank issued more than 2.76 billion shares to pay dividends to existing shareholders at a rate of 49.5%, thereby increasing Vietcombank's charter capital from VND 55,890 billion to nearly VND 83,557 billion.
VPBank ranked second in terms of charter capital, with VND79,339 billion, unchanged from the end of last year. The two banks following VPBank in terms of charter capital were Techcombank (VND70,649 billion) and BIDV (VND70,214 billion, up 2%).
MB ranked 5th in the ranking in terms of charter capital scale. After issuing nearly 796 million shares to pay dividends to existing shareholders, MB's charter capital increased to more than VND 61,022 billion, an increase of 15% compared to the end of 2024.
SHB and LPBank are also two banks that have changed their charter capital, increasing by 11% and 17% respectively, to VND40,657 billion and VND29,873 billion.
Not only are the Top 10 banks pushing to increase charter capital, other banks in the system are also aiming to increase capital strongly in 2025.
Most recently, the State Bank has approved NCB to increase its charter capital by VND7,500 billion through private placement of shares to professional securities investors. After the successful issuance, NCB's charter capital will increase from the current VND11,780 billion to VND19,280 billion.
Similarly, the State Bank has approved the increase of VIB's charter capital by a maximum of nearly VND4,249 billion in the form of issuing shares to existing shareholders and issuing ESOPs. After completing the above two components, VIB's charter capital will increase from over VND29,791 billion to over VND34,040 billion, corresponding to a capital increase rate of 14.26%.
Also in the wave of capital increase, Orient Commercial Joint Stock Bank (OCB) also announced a resolution approving the implementation of the plan to increase charter capital in 2025 by issuing shares from equity capital.
Accordingly, OCB will issue nearly 197.3 million shares to increase its equity capital from owners' equity. If this issuance is completed, OCB's charter capital will increase by VND1,973 billion, from VND24,658 billion to more than VND26,630 billion.
In terms of total assets, BIDV continues to hold the leading position in total assets across the system, reaching more than VND 2.8 million billion, an increase of 3% compared to the end of 2024.
In second place is VietinBank, reaching more than 2.4 million billion VND, up 4% compared to the end of 2024; followed by Vietcombank reaching 2.1 million billion VND, up 1% compared to the end of 2024.
The 4th position in total assets belongs to MB, reaching 1.15 million billion VND, an increase of 2% compared to the end of 2024. VPBank has the most impressive growth rate with an increase of 8%, reaching 994,037 billion VND. With this increase, VPBank has surpassed Techcombank to take the 5th position in the Top 10 banks with the largest total assets. Techcombank is in the 6th position, with total assets reaching 989,216 billion VND, an increase of 1% compared to the end of 2024.
The next positions are ACB (VND891,675 billion, up 3%); SHB (VND790,742 billion, up 6%); Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Sacombank - VND757,093 billion, up 1%) and HDBank (VND711,311 billion, up 2%).
