In response to the news that some establishments were discovered using imported cooking oil intended for animal feed to produce and process it into cooking oil for human consumption, a representative of the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) warned that this was a serious violation of food safety regulations, potentially affecting public health.
To prevent risks and ensure consumer safety, the Food Safety Department recommends that food production and trading establishments, especially collective kitchens and ready-to-eat meal suppliers, need to request suppliers to clarify the product's declaration and raw material records, not just rely on packaging and labels.
Facilities must not use raw materials for purposes other than those declared in food processing, even when there are sufficient invoices and documents.
When detecting suspicion, the Food Safety Department recommends that people promptly inform the authorities for handling according to regulations.
According to the Food Safety Department, compliance with the intended use of food ingredients is not only a technical requirement, but also a mandatory legal responsibility. Any intentional use of ingredients other than the registered purpose for food processing, especially in cases where the ingredients are not safe for consumers, will be considered and strictly handled by the authorities in accordance with the provisions of law.
Previously, Hung Yen Provincial Police had just dismantled a production and consumption line of fake cooking oil on an exceptionally large scale, up to tens of thousands of tons. The subjects designed an underground pipeline system, pumping raw oil for livestock and aquatic products into cooking oil tanks, then labeled it Ofood - a brand of Nhat Minh Food Production and Import-Export Company Limited.
The subjects stated that this oil source was mainly sold to industrial kitchens, restaurants, and craft villages that produce confectionery, chips, and snacks. The product declaration file even stated that it had added Vitamin A, but the test results did not detect this substance.
A representative of the Food Safety Department said that according to Decree No. 15/2018/ND-CP of the Government, vegetable oil belongs to the group of products under the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for state management of food safety, including the entire chain of production, processing, trading and circulation on the market.
