* Desire to improve knowledge
Dr. Ngo So Phe was born in 1981 in a family with a rich revolutionary tradition in Kim Son commune, Tra Cu district - a particularly difficult rural area of Tra Vinh province, with more than 90% of the population being Khmer. Since childhood, she waseducated in patriotism, national pride and the will to rise up through each teaching of her father, former Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tra Cu district. Since primary school, her father taught and encouraged her to study and value knowledge. He often says: "I have nothing to leave you except for letters. Because this is the greatest asset in life, you must try to study hard to become successful."
That advice is not only a precious memory but also a “compass” that guides the four brothers in her family to pursue their studies diligently. Although the family faced many difficulties and shortages, the four brothers all followed their father's teachings, persevered to overcome barriers to rise up, become intellectual citizens, and contribute to building their homeland.
Ngo So Phe's childhood was associated with cycling more than 8km to school, regardless of rain or shine. Her family was poor, so after graduating from high school, she and her brother decided to choose to study at a vocational school to save money and go to work early to help their parents.
In 2001, after graduating from high school, she was recruited to work at Tra Vinh Community College, the predecessor of Tra Vinh University today. This was a turning point marking the beginning of her educational career and the place where the aspirations of improving knowledge of a Khmer girl in the poor countryside of Kim Son took flight. From here, the journey of improving knowledge of the female civil servant began, persistently and persistently rising step by step from high school to university, then graduate school and finally to PhD.
As the first Khmer woman in Tra Vinh province to receive a PhD degree from the state budget, Dr. Ngo So Phe chose the path of scientific research closely linked to real life and the need to develop knowledge in ethnic minority communities.
Her PhD thesis focused on improving the quality of human resources for Khmer women. This is a disadvantage and vulnerable group because they are both women and ethnic areas, suffering many disadvantages due to outdated social prejudices. Therefore, her scientific research received deep attention from the community, especially the Khmer people and management leaders.
Dr. Ngo So Phe devotes all her time and energy to the research work of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Khmer people. Her research is considered a core factor in building the foundation and developing the human resources of the Khmer ethnic women, making an important contribution to equality and improving the social status of Khmer women in Tra Vinh in particular and Khmer women in the Southern region in general. Her research and scientific activities contribute to preserving and promoting the cultural identity, improving the material and spiritual life of the Khmer people in the South.

* Linking knowledge with identity
Dr. Thach Thi Dan, Vice President of Tra Vinh University, said: "Dr. Ngo So Phe, President of the School of Southern Khmer Language, Culture, Arts and Humanities, has led and effectively implemented the national mission of training human resources in the field of Southern Khmer language, culture and arts. The school's outstanding results contribute to preserving Khmer cultural identity in the digital age, promoting innovation and sustainable development of the region."
Currently, the Southern Khmer Language - Culture - Arts and Humanities School trains over 2,500 students from college to PhD level. In addition to regular training, the school also organizes Khmer language training courses for cadres, civil servants, public employees and armed forces in localities with large Khmer populations throughout the country. These training courses help improve communication skills, cultural understanding, contribute to improving management, policy dissemination and community engagement. The training programs also contribute to preserving national cultural identity, associated with tourism development, improving qualifications, creating sustainable livelihoods and promoting socio-economic development in the Southern ethnic minority areas.
Mr. Thach Mu Ni, Deputy Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions of Tra Vinh province, highly appreciated the contributions of Dr. Ngo So Phe. He said that Dr. Ngo So Phe and the Southern Khmer Language - Culture - Arts School and Humanities not only contributed to training high-quality human resources for the country but were also typical examples of linking knowledge with identity, developing culture with economy - a sustainable direction in building and protecting the Fatherland.
The female Doctor has strongly inspired the younger generations of Khmer people and other ethnic minority communities, being a typical example of rising from a humble starting point - graduating from high school, overcoming many barriers of circumstances, geographical distance... to become a Doctor and an excellent education manager, a typical symbol of overcoming difficulties among Khmer intellectuals. This proves that: "Anyone, no matter where they start, can go far if they have aspiration and perseverance.
"Tra Vinh is the province with the highest Khmer population in the country, accounting for nearly 32% of the province's population. In recent years, Party committees and authorities at all levels have always focused on education and training, improving the intellectual level of the Khmer people. The proud result is that the Khmer cadres in Tra Vinh are increasing in number, accounting for about 22% of the more than 23,000 cadres, civil servants and public employees in the province today. Many people are highly qualified, actively contributing to the construction and development of their homeland.
Dr. Ngo So Phe was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the State and many provincial-level emulation titles... Notably, she is one of six outstanding individuals nationally to be honored in the Vietnam Glory Program 2025 taking place on June 22.
Dr. Ngo So Phe's achievements are not only in his academic titles and degrees, but also in his spiritual values that spread far and wide as an example of overcoming difficulties, making great contributions, and the pride of the Khmer community, inspiring the younger generation to improve their knowledge and contribute to their homeland, country, and Vietnamese people./.
