International flight revenue accounts for a large proportion
In the first six months of this year, Vietnam Airlines operated nearly 78,000 flights, transporting 12.6 million passengers and 165,000 tons of cargo, up 11%, 13% and 16% respectively over the same period. The fleet readiness index reached nearly 100%.
The strategy of expanding the international flight network is a key step in concretizing Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new situation. As of July 1, 2025, Vietnam Airlines has operated 69 routes to 37 destinations in 21 countries and territories, constantly increasing its presence in key areas.
The airline has restored and opened many new routes connecting Vietnam with dynamic economic and tourist centers such as Hanoi-Moscow (Russia), Hanoi-Milan (Italy), Ho Chi Minh City-Beijing (China), Da Nang-Osaka (Japan), Nha Trang-Busan (Korea), Phu Quoc-Seoul (Korea)...
“The effectiveness of the international flight network expansion strategy is clearly demonstrated when international transport revenue in the first 6 months of the year accounted for 60% of total transport revenue, an increase of more than 10% over the same period,” said a leader of Vietnam Airlines.

In the second quarter of 2025, Vietnam Airlines' consolidated revenue reached VND28,361 billion, with after-tax profit reaching VND2,923 billion. The parent company alone achieved nearly VND23,205 billion in revenue and after-tax profit reaching VND2,764 billion.
“The above strong growth was achieved thanks to the restoration and exploitation of many international routes, optimizing the efficiency of fleet and resource use, cutting costs... The parent company's gross profit from sales and service provision reached VND3,934.7 billion, equivalent to 17.3% of revenue. The parent company's total revenue and other income in the second quarter of 2025 increased by more than VND3,961 billion compared to the same period in 2024, of which revenue from international transportation services increased by 15.8%,” said a leader of Vietnam Airlines.
In addition, the plan to increase charter capital by an additional VND22,000 billion has been approved by the competent authority, creating a solid foundation for a long-term investment strategy. Of which, VND9,000 billion is being deployed in the third quarter of 2025 through issuing shares to existing shareholders.
5 Star Airline Goal
2025 is a pivotal year for Vietnam Airlines to take strategic steps towards a new stage of development. The airline is accelerating the implementation of major investment projects, including the project to invest in 50 new generation narrow-body aircraft, with a total investment of more than VND92,000 billion, expected to be implemented in the period 2030-2035. The project aims to improve operational efficiency, save fuel and reduce carbon emissions.
At Long Thanh Airport, Vietnam Airlines has started many key projects such as: Ground equipment maintenance project, providing repair and maintenance services for aviation vehicles and equipment with a capacity to serve at least 12.5 million passengers and 600,000 tons of cargo per year; Airline catering project with a designed capacity of 40,000 meals/day; Aircraft maintenance project on an area of over 45,000m2. These projects will form a synchronous service ecosystem, ready to serve Long Thanh Airport when put into operation.
Digital transformation continues to be a strategic pillar in the coming period. Vietnam Airlines is cooperating with the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group ( VNPT ) to deploy an in-flight Internet connection service (IFC-InFlight Connectivity) in early August 2025, helping passengers stay connected throughout their journey.
The company is promoting system modernization, service automation, and integration of electronic identification throughout the process, in line with the orientation of building a modern, effective, and sustainable digital ecosystem according to Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo.
In the field of sustainable development, Vietnam Airlines pioneered the deployment of flights using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Typical examples include the first international flight using SAF from Singapore to Hanoi and four domestic flights using SAF on June 5, World Environment Day. All flights are combined with fuel optimization solutions, demonstrating Vietnam Airlines' clear commitment to the Net Zero 2050 target and a comprehensive environmental-social-corporate governance (ESG) strategy.

The company is also promoting the development of specialized cargo transport products, chartering cargo aircraft, taking advantage of logistics potential and the advantages of transit airports. This will be a business segment with systematic investment to improve fleet exploitation efficiency and diversify revenue sources.
In the last six months of the year, Vietnam Airlines aims to operate 81,000 flights, transport 13.1 million passengers and achieve air transport revenue of VND46,200 billion. The airline focuses on key solutions: improving operational efficiency, optimizing cash flow, ensuring stable operations, investing in infrastructure, promoting digital transformation, and developing high-quality human resources.
With positive growth momentum and comprehensive development orientation, Vietnam Airlines is creating a solid foundation for the period 2025-2030. The airline continues to affirm its pioneering role as the National Airline, accompanying the country's development and deeply integrating into the regional and international aviation network.
With a strategy of expanding its international flight network, investing in synchronous infrastructure and a consistent development orientation, Vietnam Airlines is gradually realizing its goal of becoming an international 5-star airline in the 2025-2030 period./.
