During a meeting with Uruguayan Deputy Foreign Minister Valeria Csukasi, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet emphasized the desire for the two countries to increase delegation exchanges and closely coordinate at international and regional forums such as the United Nations, the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), ASEAN and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The Ambassador especially proposed to soon start negotiations on a trade agreement between Vietnam and MERCOSUR to create a solid legal foundation for bilateral economic cooperation.
Deputy Minister Valeria Csukasi said she will officially visit Vietnam in mid-August and attend the 5th Political Consultation between the two Foreign Ministries to promote effective cooperation in many fields.
In addition to official contacts, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet also participated in and spoke at the advanced political theory course of the Communist Party of Uruguay. In her speech, the Ambassador shared extensively about Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements as well as its foreign policy during the renovation period. The delegates, including many young party members, expressed their deep interest in Vietnam's socialist-oriented market economic development model and asked many questions to better understand the country's renovation path.
On this occasion, the Ambassador also surveyed the progress of the construction of the "Vietnam Space" on Jose Pedro Varela Avenue (capital of Montevideo) - a symbolic building located in front of the Antel Arena National Convention Center. The Montevideo City Government hopes that this space will become a place of cultural connection, helping the Uruguayan people and international friends always remember President Ho Chi Minh - the great leader of the Vietnamese people. During his journey to find a way to save the country in 1912, President Ho Chi Minh set foot in this South American country, leaving a deep mark on the friendly relations between the two peoples.
Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet's working trip not only contributes to strengthening political relations between the two Parties and States but also opens up many prospects for substantive cooperation in the fields of diplomacy, economy, culture and trade between Vietnam and Uruguay in the coming time.
