On May 12, 2025, in response to a reporter's question asking about Vietnam's reaction to Russian President V. Putin's proposal on May 11, 2025 to resume direct negotiations with Ukraine, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated:

“We welcome the proposal of Russian President V. Putin on May 11, 2025 to resume direct negotiations with Ukraine.

Vietnam's consistent stance is to support the settlement of disputes and disagreements by peaceful means through dialogue, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, taking into account the legitimate interests of all parties involved, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world."
