The workshop is an important forum, gathering managers, scientists and leading experts in the field of atomic energy (NEE) to discuss and contribute in-depth opinions on the amendment and supplementation of the 2008 Law on NEE. The amendment of the NEE is considered an urgent requirement to update and perfect the legal framework, ensuring compliance with the development of science and technology, safety and security standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the practical situation in Vietnam.
At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing the main contents of the draft Law (amended), including: Regulations on licensing activities in the field of nuclear energy; management of nuclear power plant projects; Ensuring security for nuclear facilities; management of radioactive waste and used radioactive sources; response to radiation incidents and nuclear incidents.
These issues have a great impact on the country's strategy for developing and applying nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
For the Institute of Rare Radioactive Technology, the completion of the legal framework in the field of nuclear energy is of special importance, closely linked to the functions, tasks and strategic development orientation of the Institute.
Participating in the workshop, experts from the Institute of Radioactive Technology were particularly interested in the contents directly related to the Institute's activities, especially the report on "Regulations on the management of radioactive waste and used radioactive sources" and "Regulations on responding to radiation incidents and nuclear incidents". Practical experience in researching, handling radioactive materials and managing radiation safety at the Institute is a valuable source of information to help the drafting agency develop regulations that are both strict and feasible.
Overview of the Workshop.
The active participation of the Institute of Rare Radioactive Technology at the Workshop not only demonstrates the responsibility of a leading scientific and technological unit but also affirms its commitment to accompany state management agencies in building a solid legal corridor.
The comprehensive and practical Law on Nuclear Energy (amended) will be an important foundation, creating conditions for the Institute of Rare Radioactive Technology and the Vietnam atomic energy industry to develop sustainably, safely and effectively, contributing to the successful implementation of the national strategy on the development and application of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
