VAR was applied on the day Coach Gong Oh Kyun debuted in V-League

The two matches of round 4 applying VAR technology include the match at Hang Day Stadium between Hanoi FC and Quy Nhon Binh Dinh Club (taking place at 7:15 p.m. on December 3) and the match between Hai Phong Club and Hanoi Police Club (taking place at 6:00 p.m. on December 4 at Lach Tray Stadium).

In the first 3 rounds of Night Wolf V-League 2023-24, 10/20 matches have applied VAR technology. Many VAR interventions have brought fairness, supporting the main referee to make accurate decisions.

According to statistics, in the last 10 matches using VAR, there were 8 situations where the VAR referee suggested the main referee review the situation on the field (on field review) and then the main referee changed his original decision; one situation where the referee still kept his decision after reviewing the situation; in addition, there were 2 situations where VAR advice helped the main referee make a more accurate decision.

V-League 2023 is in the early stages of applying VAR technology and will be under FIFA supervision for 3 consecutive years. Each round of V-League 2023-24 can have 2, 3 and a maximum of 4 matches applied.

All VAR room data of deployed matches is sent to the World Football Federation (FIFA) after each round so that experts can monitor and evaluate the VAR operation capacity of the Organizing Committee as well as the Referee Board.

Initially, FIFA has had positive assessments of the VAR operation process at V-League and regularly actively supports VPF and the tournament organizing committee.

VAR appearing in V-League helps referees feel more secure in managing matches, and matches with VAR will be fairer. However, VAR is only a tool to support referees and cannot end all the controversies that often exist in football.
