According to Yonhap news agency, on the evening of November 21, the South Korean military said North Korea launched an object that Pyongyang claimed was a spy satellite.

Previously, on November 20, Mr. Kang Ho-pil, Director of Operations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea, warned North Korea to "immediately stop" preparations for the launch of the next military reconnaissance satellite and threatened to take "necessary measures" if the plan continued.

“If North Korea continues with its plan to launch a military reconnaissance satellite despite our warnings, our military will take necessary measures to protect the lives and safety of its people,” Kang Ho-pil said, declining to provide details of potential measures.

North Korea conducted two launches to put spy satellites into orbit in May and August.

Under UN Security Council resolutions, North Korea is banned from using ballistic missile technology in any form or for any purpose.
