Awarding medals to 2 pilots of crashed Yak-130 aircraft

(Dan Tri) -The President awarded the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to the two pilots of the crashed Yak-130 aircraft for their outstanding achievements in performing combat flight training missions.


On the afternoon of November 23 in Khanh Hoa , authorized by the President, Lieutenant General Tran Ngoc Quyen, Political Commissar of the Air Defense - Air Force, awarded the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to two pilots Colonel Nguyen Van Son and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Quan.

Previously, on November 21, the President decided to award the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to the two pilots involved in the Yak-130 plane crash in Binh Dinh for "having outstanding achievements in performing combat flight training missions, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland".

The two pilots above had extensive training experience, courage, and determination. They were calm, confident, not afraid of sacrifice, identified the right opportunity, and promptly handled unexpected situations in the air.

At the award ceremony, Lieutenant General Tran Ngoc Quyen praised the leaders and commanders of the Air Force Officer School, Air Force Regiment 940 and the officers, staff and soldiers in the flight team for doing a good job of preparing, organizing tight flight command, and handling situations promptly and flexibly.

Previously, on November 6, Air Force Regiment 940 organized a training flight at Phu Cat airport, Binh Dinh province.

Colonel Nguyen Van Son, Regiment Commander and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Quan, Flight Director of the regiment directly practiced the flight crew controlling the Yak-130 aircraft with serial number 210D.

After completing the mission, the plane was piloted back to the airport to land, but encountered a technical problem. Immediately after that, the pilots took emergency measures to save the plane but were unsuccessful.

Although ordered to parachute, the two pilots remained calm and brave, flying the plane away from densely populated areas and parachuting safely, causing no damage to people or property on the ground.

This action demonstrates the training level, combat readiness and noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, elite air defense and air force soldiers.

On November 7, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense , sent a letter of commendation and encouragement to the officers, staff, and soldiers of the flight crew of Air Force Regiment 940, Air Force Officer School, Air Defense - Air Force Service, and the two pilots who were in the accident.
