VTC NewsVTC News23/01/2025

The draw ceremony for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals took place this afternoon, January 23. Vietnam U17 is in Group B with Japan U17, Australia U17 and UAE U17.

This is a very difficult group for U17 Vietnam. The opponents in the group are all considered the strongest of each respective seed group.

The 2025 AFC U17 Championship is scheduled to take place in April in Saudi Arabia. The tournament will feature 16 teams. Southeast Asian football will have three representatives: Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

Starting from 2025, the AFC U17 Championship will take place every two years, and the U17 World Cup qualifiers will take place in the same year. According to the format issued by the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the top 8 teams at the 2025 AFC U17 Championship will qualify for the 2025 U17 World Cup.

This format opens up the opportunity to participate in the world arena for all teams (just need to reach the quarter-finals of the Asian tournament). However, the journey to the U17 World Cup for U17 Vietnam is predicted to be very difficult.

Japan U17 is the reigning Asian champion and has always been very strong in youth tournaments. Australia and UAE are representatives of the continent's leading football development. Competing for a place in the next round in this group is a very difficult task.

Vietnam U17 qualified for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship as one of the five best second-placed teams in the qualifying round. At that time, the head coach of Vietnam U17 was Cristiano Roland. Currently, the Brazilian coach has signed a contract to lead the Da Nang club.
