This is the 26th time the tournament has been held and is also one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year, bringing together the two champion teams in the two most important arenas: Nam Dinh Green Steel Club and Hanoi Police Club.
The National Football Super Cup is the opening match of the new season, held annually since 1999 at the initiative of Tien Phong Newspaper and the Vietnam Football Federation.
After nearly three decades of development, the tournament has become a symbol of national football, bringing together national champions and national cups in the only prestigious match. The 2024/25 edition continues to be organized in the traditional format: two teams play 90 minutes of official competition, if the draw is determined by a penalty shootout, no extra time.
This year's match will take place at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Thien Truong Stadium, Ninh Binh Province. Choosing Ninh Binh as the venue not only contributes to expanding the Vietnamese football map but also helps the locality promote its image, culture and tourism potential to a large number of fans at home and abroad.
Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh province Nguyen Manh Cuong affirmed that all preparations for the match have been completed, and local people are eagerly awaiting the big football festival.
The match promises to be very dramatic as both teams enter the field with high form and determination. Thep Xanh Nam Dinh Club - the champion of LPBank V.League 1-2024/25 - has affirmed its superior strength in the domestic tournament when ending the season with 57 points, 8 points more than the second-placed team. Under the leadership of coach Vu Hong Viet, the team from Thanh Nam demonstrated a strong attacking style with 51 goals and a solid defense that only conceded 18 goals - impressive numbers that speak volumes about the stability and bravery of the champion.
On the opposite side, Hanoi Police Club is equally impressive with the 2024/25 National Cup championship. Coach Mano Polking's team has gone through a convincing journey with a series of impressive victories: 2-1 against Hong Linh Ha Tinh in the round of 16, 3-1 against Hai Phong in the quarterfinals, overcoming The Cong Viettel in the semi-finals and winning 5-0 against SLNA in the final. This is the first time the Police team has won the National Cup and they are aiming for the historic goal of winning the first Super Cup for the club.
Another important highlight of the event is the specially designed Cup, imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity. The 2024/25 Super National Cup is made of silver-plated bronze, inspired by the Dong Son bronze drum and the image of the Lac bird - a symbol of aspiration, solidarity and national pride. The Cup is a handcrafted product by skilled artisans of King Gold, conveying a message of the spirit of conquest and victory in the new era of Vietnamese sports.
The organizers said that in addition to THACO as the main sponsor, the match also received the support of many other sponsors. The team that wins the Super Cup will receive a prize of 300 million VND, the remaining team will receive 200 million VND.
In addition, the first goal scorer and the best player of the match will both receive a prize of 10 million VND. The match will be broadcast live on the FPT Play system, FPT social network platform, Tien Phong Newspaper, VPF channels and many other free TV stations. Notably, this year the Organizing Committee will continue not to sell television copyrights, in order to create maximum conditions for fans nationwide to access and enjoy the match.
According to information from the Organizing Committee, this year's match is expected to have the presence of FIFA representatives in attendance. VAR (video assistant referee) technology is also likely to be applied to improve accuracy and transparency in match management - an important step forward contributing to raising the standards for tournaments in Vietnam.
The 2024/25 National Football Super Cup - THACO Cup is not only a competition between two leading teams but also a meaningful sporting activity, celebrating the country's important events: 80 years of the successful August Revolution, 80 years of National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and 80 years of the People's Public Security Traditional Day.
