Ho Chi Minh City spends nearly 240 billion VND to exempt tuition fees for secondary school students

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City will support tuition fees of 60,000 VND/student/month for group 1 and 30,000 VND/student/month for group 2.

Group 1 is students studying at schools in Thu Duc City and districts: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan;

Group 2 is students studying at schools in Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Nha Be and Can Gio districts.

With this policy, students will be exempted from tuition fees. The application period is 9 months of the 2024-2025 school year, from the city budget.

The estimated budget for implementing this policy is 237 billion VND. Of which, 221 billion VND is to support tuition fees for public secondary school students (over 464,000 students); 16 billion VND is to support non-public secondary school students (over 30,000 students).

According to the City People's Committee, this policy aims to continue to inherit and promote the special policy of supporting 100% of tuition fees for junior high school students, which has received positive responses from public opinion in the 2023-2024 school year; creating a premise for implementing the roadmap for universalizing junior high school education according to the provisions of the 2019 Education Law; in line with the socio -economic situation of the city in the new period and demonstrating the city's interest in education.
