One of the biggest reasons many people choose Sony's PlayStation 5 over Microsoft's Xbox Series X/S is the high-quality exclusive games like "God of War Ragnarok" and "The Last of Us."
However, PlayStation’s latest exclusive title has been surpassed in sales on PS5 by a game published by Xbox itself. That is Forza Horizon 5, the popular open -world racing game released in 2021 by Xbox Game Studios, surpassed the blockbuster “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach”.

According to a report from Alinea Analytics , a unit that specializes in tracking game sales, “Forza Horizon 5” has sold 2 million copies on PS5 in just the first 25 days of its launch (from April 29). During the same period, the PS5 exclusive game from Kojima Productions only reached 1 million sales.
“Despite critical acclaim, Death Stranding 2 ’s uniqueness meant that sales were lower than other PlayStation Studios titles,” said Rhys Elliott, head of market analysis at Alinea Analytics.
He also commented that this is one of the brands with lasting sales.
"The game will continue to sell well over time, especially when there is a PC version (released late 2026), attracting a large number of Chinese players," Mr. Elliott commented.

Meanwhile, Forza Horizon 5 is an easy-to-play, accessible, and content-rich racing title. There aren't many games in the genre that come close to matching the quality on the PlayStation Store.
Still, the fact that a four-year-old Xbox title is selling twice as much as a new PlayStation exclusive on the same console in the same period of time is alarming to Sony.
Last week, Forza Horizon 5 also officially reached 3 million copies sold on PS5, surpassing Astro Bot , the 2024 Game of the Year award winner.
In addition to the impressive numbers of Forza Horizon 5, the report also revealed many other interesting information. Specifically, Monster Hunter Wilds ranked second in the list of best-selling games on PS5 this year with 2.9 million copies. Closely followed by Assassin's Creed Shadows with 2 million copies, while Elden Ring Nightreign reached 1.4 million copies.
Notably, the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam also achieved great success with 6.2 million copies sold, despite receiving much criticism from fans.
The Future of Cross-Platform Gaming
Microsoft's business strategy with Xbox has increasingly focused on releasing games across multiple platforms. Promotional campaigns like "This is an Xbox," the launch of the Xbox Ally console, the return of Xbox Play Anywhere, and the growth of Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate are all clear evidence of this direction.
Similarly, Microsoft has started bringing some Xbox titles to PlayStation. Last year, it was Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush , and Pentiment . Earlier this year, it was Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5 .

The huge success of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 is a clear sign that Microsoft is on the right track when it comes to bringing Xbox titles to its rival's platform. Sony has certainly noticed this, as evidenced by the fact that it surprised the industry by announcing that it would be releasing an Xbox version of its blockbuster Helldivers 2 .
As such, it's likely that Xbox multiplayer titles will continue to be released on PlayStation, either at launch or after some time.
While it's unlikely that PS5 games will launch on Xbox right away, there will be plenty of cases similar to Helldivers 2. Even Sony wants a piece of the multiplatform market, as evidenced by the constant porting of PlayStation Studios titles to PC.
