Nicobar pigeons have the scientific name Caloenas nicobarica , are a species of pigeon, distributed in Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.
This bird is notable for its brightly colored plumage, especially its long, metallic green neck, which resembles a mane. The short, white tail feathers create a unique contrast.
Nicobar pigeons live mainly in primary forests, mangroves and small islands. Their main food is seeds, fruits and small insects.
Due to habitat loss and illegal hunting, the number of Nicobar pigeons in the wild is seriously declining, causing them to be listed as a protected species.
In Vietnam, Nicobar pigeons have been recorded in several places. Con Dao is considered one of the ideal habitats for this bird species.

According to Ms. Phan Thi Tim, Deputy Head of the Con Dao Special Zone Economic Department, 5 Nicobar pigeons were lost and showed signs of injury when discovered by local people and voluntarily handed over to the unit.
According to regulations, these 5 pigeons will be released into the natural environment. However, because some of them showed signs of injury, the unit handed them over to the Con Dao National Park Management Board for care. When the pigeons recover, the authorities will release them back into their natural habitat.
After receiving them, Con Dao National Park officials checked the overall health of 5 Nicobar pigeons, including 1 male and 4 female pigeons, weighing from 190-250 grams.
