Mr. Lam Van Dang (middle) introduces the goat farming model supported by Loc Thien Border Guard Station.

A few years ago, Lam Van Dang's family was in a very difficult situation. His wife was physically weak and had undergone intestinal surgery; the two children were still too young, so Dang was the only one responsible for the family's life. The family had no garden land to cultivate, so Dang worked as a rubber tapper to earn a living. His family was one of the poor households in the commune. Understanding the situation, Loc Thien Border Guard Station supported him with funds to buy 3 female goats and 1 male goat to develop a goat farming model. Thanks to focusing on business, the family has developed a stable herd of goats. Every year, from the model, the family earns more than 10 million VND, thanks to which the economy is more stable, Dang has saved up to build a new house...

Mr. Ngo Van Dien, Head of Vuon Buoi Hamlet, said: Many poor and disadvantaged households in the hamlet and in Loc Tan commune have been wholeheartedly helped by officers and soldiers of Loc Thien Border Guard Station. In addition to donating cows and goats, the unit also has many charitable programs such as "Charity Rice Jar", which gives 2 especially disadvantaged households 10kg of rice each month. On holidays and traditional New Year, the unit mobilizes contributions in conjunction with departments, branches, organizations, local authorities, businesses, and philanthropists to give gifts to policy families, poor, disadvantaged, and single families, and to support poor and studious students.

According to Mr. Dien, in addition to giving gifts to support the poor in the area, the officers and soldiers of Loc Thien Border Guard Station are also a support for people in natural disasters and fires. Taking us to visit the pepper garden of Mr. Doan Quang Khoa's family in Vuon Buoi hamlet, Mr. Dien and Mr. Khoa said: The pepper garden consists of more than 1,000 stakes. Not long ago, storms caused the pepper stakes to fall. Thanks to the help of officers and soldiers to rebuild, more than 1,000 pepper stakes have grown well, promising a bumper crop. Mr. Khoa was excited: "Without the officers and soldiers of the Border Guard Station, my family would probably be poor again. The people here thank the Loc Thien Border Guard Station very much!"
