Amidst the devastation after storm No. 5, this morning, more than 1,000 students of all levels in the flooded commune of Yen Nhan entered the first day of the new school year 2025-2026. The sound of the school drum in the flooded area has resounded, evoking a strong belief in a bright tomorrow.

At the end of August, Yen Nhan became the epicenter of the flood. Water rushed in from upstream, carrying rocks and soil, crushing small houses. The whole commune had 326 affected households, of which 25 were swept away. The pain was evident on every roof, village road, and alley covered in mud.

Among the parents who took their children to school this morning, Ms. Lo Thi Hiem, from Khong village, was still shocked when her house was swept away by the flood. But she still tried to persevere: “If we lose our house, we can rebuild it, and our children must go to school in time for the new school year. Only by studying can we hope to change our fate in the future.”

Not far away, Mr. Luong Thanh Bang and his wife took their son, who is in third grade this year, to school. The recent flood washed away the cowshed, the fish pond, and buried many acres of rice fields. However, this morning, they still carefully combed and smoothed their son's hair, and put on him a white shirt that had been washed clean of the mud from the flood to attend the opening ceremony.

“Seeing my child go to school, I forget all my tiredness. Studying is the only way to have a bright future!”, Mr. Bang said, his eyes shining with hope.

Not only parents, teachers at schools in Yen Nhan commune have also been struggling with mud in the past few days. At Yen Nhan Kindergarten, the flood swept away 16m of the fence, the kitchen collapsed into the foundation, and many equipment were damaged. Yen Nhan 1 Primary School was littered with bricks and stones, nearly half of the desks and chairs were damaged...

“Without the help of the army, police, and militia, the schools probably would not have been able to hold the opening ceremony today,” said Mr. Le Dinh Khoi, Principal of Yen Nhan 1 Primary School.

Previously, from August 26, nearly 100 officers and soldiers of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Military Command marched to the flood center, leveling the land and cleaning each classroom. During the National Day holiday, more than 60 soldiers remained, divided into two groups to support kindergartens and primary schools in the commune.

Thanks to the sharing and wholehearted help, by the morning of September 5, the school yard was clean, tables and chairs were repaired, cleaned, and neatly arranged.

This year's opening ceremony, although lacking flags and art performances like every year, is very special. Thanks to the efforts of local authorities, schools have coordinated with VNPT to connect to the Internet, teachers and students can watch the opening ceremony live on VTV1 from 8am to 9:30am.

Although the “wound” caused by natural disasters has not yet healed, thanks to the efforts and solidarity of the entire political system, the new school year has still been able to take place. As Mr. Quach The Thuan, Chairman of Yen Nhan Commune, said, no matter how difficult it is, we must give the children a meaningful and warm first day of school.

And that's right, amidst the chaotic and chaotic scene of the village and commune due to natural disasters, the clear eyes of the students, the sweaty smiles of the teachers and parents blend together to create an unforgettable opening season, an opening season of faith after the storm for a brighter tomorrow.
