VIDEO: Emotional opening ceremony of new school year at special school

(NLDO) - Instead of singing the national anthem at the opening of the new school year, special students of Xa Dan Secondary School turned to the national flag, expressing it with sign language.

This morning, September 5, in the atmosphere of the opening of the new school year of tens of millions of students nationwide, teachers and students of Xa Dan Secondary School ( Hanoi ) opened the new school year 2025 - 2026.

As a school located in the center of Hanoi, it has specialized classes teaching culture and life skills for deaf students, so the opening ceremony is special compared to other schools.

Xa Dan Secondary School is one of the few specialized schools that accepts disabled students in Hanoi.

Mr. Pham Van Hoan, Principal of Xa Dan Secondary School, said that most of the students studying here are deaf, or are born deaf or mute, or cannot hear or speak normally due to some illness, and teachers communicate with students mostly using sign language.

Xa Dan Secondary School has enough students from grades 1 to 9. In the 2025-2026 school year, the school will welcome 70 new students, bringing the total number of students to 361, of which 65% are hearing impaired students; 35% are hearing students.

Currently, the school organizes classes for both normal students and deaf students. With this mix, deaf students receive better care, attention from friends helps them integrate better. Meanwhile, normal students can also help deaf students, thereby cultivating their compassion and tolerance.

According to Mr. Hoan, today is a great day of joy for the school's staff, teachers, employees and beloved students. When receiving news from the City Department of Education and Training about organizing this year's opening ceremony in a new form of online connection from the Central bridge at the My Dinh National Convention Center, the school has prepared very carefully to have a historic opening, so that the children "can have the most complete opening ceremony".

"We divided it into 10 connecting points in the school, including 1 connecting point in the council room for guests, teachers who are not homeroom teachers, excellent students, and representatives of parents to watch the opening ceremony online nationwide from 8:00 to 9:30. After that, the school will organize its own opening ceremony" - Mr. Hoan shared.
