Tien Giang sets up 4 checkpoints to control African swine fever

Accordingly, Cho Gao district authorities deployed measures to contain the outbreak, coordinated with relevant agencies to set up quarantine checkpoints, and provided guidance and control over travel, transportation, slaughtering, and trading of pork in the area during the outbreak.

On the same day, the People's Committee of Xuan Dong commune set up 4 quarantine checkpoints at the beginning of the roads leading to the commune, at the intersections and crossroads bordering other communes; requested that the 2 ferry piers across Cho Gao canal not transport pigs back and forth; propagated to raise awareness and perception of the epidemic among the people, absolutely not "selling" sick pigs. In particular, all sluice gates were closed tightly, not allowing pathogens to flow into the Tien River and Cho Gao canal, spreading to other localities.

Previously, from October 21 to now, African swine fever has rapidly broken out in Xuan Dong commune with 15 outbreaks. The whole commune has a total herd of more than 6,000 pigs. Up to now, more than 247 pigs out of a herd of over 840 are sick, and the authorities have destroyed more than 300 pigs weighing more than 16,200 kg.

Also in October, in Long An , Tan Hung district authorities discovered a pig farm with 10 sick pigs and 10 dead pigs. After checking and taking samples, they discovered the virus that causes African swine fever. Authorities destroyed all remaining pigs (total weight of 4,620 kg); cleaned and disinfected the affected household and surrounding areas.
