Wissa wants to leave Brentford. |
The BBC reports that Wissa's relationship with Brentford is deteriorating. In a conversation with Brentford's sporting director Phil Giles, Wissa openly expressed his intention not to play for Brentford if he is not allowed to move to Newcastle.
Previously, the 28-year-old striker attracted the attention of many Premier League clubs, including Newcastle. The "Magpies" also made an official offer worth 26 million pounds for Wissa but was immediately rejected by Brentford.
Wissa believes the Brentford board are reneging on a promise to let him leave if a suitable offer is received. Sporting director Phil Giles also held talks with Newcastle interim manager Andy Howe on 26 July, but no deal has yet been agreed.
In the 2024/25 season, Wissa scored 20 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for Brentford. The striker has 1 year left on his contract with the club. If Wissa is not sold, Brentford will lose him for free next summer, as neither side has any intention of extending his contract.
During this summer transfer window, Brentford did not hesitate to push away key players such as coach Thomas Frank, captain Christian Norgaard and striker Bryan Mbeumo. If Wissa is also pushed away, Brentford's strength will be significantly affected next season.
