Taking place in Ho Chi Minh City, the workshop “The role of scientific and technological information in socio-economic development” is a place for experts and scientists to share experiences and connect resources, contributing to the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW on the development of science, technology and innovation.

The workshop was attended by leaders of central agencies, ministries, universities, research institutes, businesses, along with many experts, scientists and students from technical schools in the city.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Tran Van Tung, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Science and Technology Information (VASTI), emphasized that this agency is always ready to play the role of a bridge, bringing knowledge from the research lab to production life, from ideas to practical applications, thereby building a smart, modern and effective economy.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, affirmed that scientific and technological information is the "lifeblood" of industrialization, modernization and international integration.

In the reporting session, Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh, Director of the Institute of Business Research, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, analyzed the relationship between scientific and technological information in socio-economic development.

“We need to turn data into useful information, bring research results to businesses and people for practical application. This is facing some difficulties in Vietnam,” said Mr. Vinh.

From there, Prof. Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh proposed a number of solutions, including stronger investment in the database system, connecting the State - Enterprises - Institutes in science and technology activities, developing and perfecting the national database on science and technology, connecting databases of international enterprises/publishers.

Next, Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Hung, Vice President of VASTI, proposed building a science and technology information ecosystem to serve innovation and digital economic development.

Meanwhile, Ms. Huynh Thi My Phuong, Director of the Central Library of VNU-HCM, emphasized the importance of information and data for scientific research, and shared experiences in exploiting information to increase the number of internationally published articles.

During the panel discussion on “Strategic technologies of the rising era”, guests discussed solutions for Vietnam to master core technologies in the context of global competition. Experts from the military, universities and businesses had active exchanges on AI, cybersecurity, electronics, digital infrastructure, logistics and green technology.

In the second session with the topic "Needs and current status of science and technology information for the business community, universities and research institutes", Prof. Dr. Le Truong Tung, Chairman of the Board ofFPT University, pointed out the difficulties when students rarely participate in research.

According to Professor Le Truong Tung, part of the reason comes from students who often only focus on studying. The underlying cause is that the teaching and learning model is not research-oriented, causing students to lack the necessary habits and skills. In addition, the difficulty in accessing scientific information sources is also an obstacle.

Representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, Cho Ray Hospital and businesses participated in sharing practical experiences in applying science and technology to healthcare, production and management.

At the end of the workshop, Mr. Tran Van Tung made three recommendations. First, the State needs to continue to improve investment incentive policies and build a national information sharing platform in an open and transparent manner.

Second, universities and research institutes must improve research quality, strengthen international cooperation and closely connect with businesses to promote application.

Third, businesses need to consider investing in science and technology information as a long-term strategy, while developing a workforce capable of exploiting and effectively applying information sources.
