According to the Telegraph , Mr. Mark Stephen Zuckerberg, a bankruptcy lawyer in Indiana (USA), said he spent about $11,000 advertising his legal services on Facebook, but both his business page and personal page were repeatedly disabled, for the reason of "impersonating a celebrity".
He said it often took months to restore his account, causing him to lose customers. He accused Facebook of violating “fair dealing” laws.
“I don’t want to pick a fight with them, but I don’t know how to make them stop. I don’t know how else to get their attention,” he said.
The victim complained that his life had been turned upside down just because he shared the same name as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg - the third richest person in the world . The lawyer said that he had received countless death threats and technical support calls.
"It's not funny at all. Especially when they take my money," he told local news channel WTHR.
Mr. Zuckerberg also set up a website to document his name-sharing troubles. He was wrongly sued in Washington state, received more than 100 friend requests a day and had to use a fake name when making restaurant reservations because the staff thought it was a joke.
Another time, a limousine driver holding a sign bearing his name in Las Vegas was mobbed by people who mistook him for the CEO of Meta.
The lawyer said he had been practicing for 38 years, when CEO Zuckerberg was just 3 years old. "I've been using this name longer than he has," he emphasized.
Zuckerberg's lawyer said he would be pleased if the Meta CEO "apologized" by letting him spend a week on a superyacht: "If he gave me a week on his yacht to say sorry, I would probably accept that offer."
He is now seeking damages and legal fees.
Responding to Mr Zuckerberg's complaint, Meta - Facebook's parent company - said: "We know there are many people named Mark Zuckerberg in the world, and we are working on this case."
