The biggest weakness that U23 Vietnam needs to overcome immediately

(Dan Tri) - If they want to overcome U23 Yemen in the decisive match for a ticket to the U23 Asian tournament, U23 Vietnam needs to overcome its weakness in finishing.

“Impatient”, that was the feeling of many fans when witnessing the match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Singapore at Viet Tri Stadium on September 6. That was the match in which U23 Vietnam players transformed into “ball shooting machines” when launching 19 shots towards the opponent’s goal but all were unsuccessful.

It cannot be denied that U23 Vietnam was unlucky when they hit the crossbar and the post 5 times in the two matches against U23 Bangladesh and U23 Yemen, but first of all, we have to blame ourselves. It is hard to believe that Viktor Le could hit the post from less than 5m in the match against U23 Singapore.

More than anyone else, coach Kim Sang Sik was the most impatient. Only when Van Thuan headed the ball into the net against U23 Singapore in the 79th minute did people see the Korean strategist's face relax a bit.

It should be emphasized that in the last two matches, coach Kim Sang Sik tested most of his best players but none of them were able to finish. This is considered a poor preparation before the decisive match with U23 Yemen.

Commenting on television, coach Pham Minh Duc emphasized: “The U23 Vietnam players have not shown their experience in the final touches. They lack poise in decisive moves.”

Remember, at the U23 Southeast Asian tournament held in July, coach Kim Sang Sik directly "demonstrated" striker Quoc Viet on finishing. He marked and instructed this striker on how to run into position, gain momentum to shoot, and personally passed the ball to his student to shoot.

That shows that the problem in finishing has existed for a long time in U23 Vietnam. Fortunately, the weakness in finishing of U23 Vietnam has not been punished. After winning the U23 Southeast Asian Championship, we are still at the top of Group C of the U23 Asian qualifiers and have the right to decide when we only need to draw with U23 Yemen to win a ticket to the Asian tournament. Suppose U23 Vietnam is ranked below the West Asian team before the final match, then our situation will be very complicated.

However, we need to be really vigilant with the current situation. A year ago, U20 Vietnam was in a similar situation. We only needed a draw against U20 Syria in the last match to qualify for the Asian tournament but we couldn't do that. The problem was that U20 Vietnam scored an own goal in the context that U20 Syria also didn't want to win.

“Sudden death” is what U23 Vietnam is really worried about. Therefore, U23 Vietnam needs to show their seriousness and professionalism at the last moment. In particular, they need to be serious in finishing to avoid falling into a difficult situation.

The match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Yemen will take place at 7:00 p.m. on September 9 at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ).
