On September 5, in Hanoi , the organization "Soldier's Heart" introduced the memoir "Battlefield and Homeland" by Major General, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Phan Van Lai, clearly depicting the arduous resistance war against the US to save the country and the indomitable will of the people of Phu Vang (Thua Thien Hue ).

The 344-page book tells about the life and career of Major General Phan Van Lai with rich content: The patriotic tradition of his homeland and family; the years of fighting with his comrades on the Tri Thien-Hue battlefield.

All of this was vividly and realistically recreated by him through the battles and feats of the security forces. He told of the enemy's sweeps, being kept hidden by the people in secret bunkers, escaping the enemy's search and extermination; of the fierce battlefield after the 1968 Mau Than Offensive; of the steadfast spirit, optimism, and belief in the inevitable victory of the revolution.

Throughout the work, he highlights the outstanding images of his comrades' special achievements, such as comrades Bay Khiem, Le Van Tri (later posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State); comrade Tao; comrade Mao... and the people of Phu Vang.

The author of the memoir "The battlefield and the homeland" is the former Deputy Director General of the General Department of Force Building of the Ministry of Public Security , and former Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Public Security.

He was born on October 25, 1930 in Phuong Dinh commune, Truc Ninh district, Nam Dinh province (old) in a family with a tradition of patriotism. Currently 95 years old and 75 years of Party membership, he still holds the important position of Head of the Public Security Liaison Committee supporting the Southern battlefield during the resistance war against the US to save the country.

Although he is at a rare old age, he still wonders what he can do to preserve the steadfast, indomitable fighting spirit and heroic sacrifice of his comrades; at the same time, he expresses his infinite gratitude to his homeland, comrades and people who have worked hard to nurture, protect, shelter and defend him through all dangers during the years of working and fighting in the smoky, difficult, arduous and fierce battlefield.

Major General Phan Van Lai shared: "I want to send to the book my gratitude and remembrance to the leaders of the Public Security sector who guided me; to remember and be grateful to my comrades, the loyal mothers on the battlefield who loved, sheltered, and protected me during the fierce enemy sweeps."

He hopes that this memoir will be a document to educate the younger generations about patriotic traditions so that they can always study and strive in their work, worthy of their family and homeland traditions.

On this occasion, the Liaison Committee of the Public Security supporting the Southern battlefield during the resistance war against the US, saving the country, in coordination with the "Soldier's Heart" Organization, presented color portraits of officers and heroic martyrs of the People's Public Security to the Museum of the Fatherland Front and the Museum of Vietnamese Women.

There are 8 typical portraits awarded on this occasion including: Vietnamese Heroic Mother Le Thi My; Comrade To Quyen (1929-1996); Heroic Martyrs Nguyen Hoa Luong (1918-1952), Ta Van Sau (1928-1960), Tran Van Tho (1935-1961), Nguyen Van Uan (1948-1972), Bui Xuan Quy (1954-1984).

At the ceremony, delegates recalled the examples of the cadres and heroic martyrs of the People's Public Security who contributed their efforts and sacrificed their blood to protect the Fatherland during the nation's resistance wars.

Colonel and writer Dang Vuong Hung, who initiated the restoration of color portraits, said: “Due to the high level of confidentiality of the police force, collecting photos of police officers during the resistance war is very difficult. We will continue to try to select the most typical portraits, so that the group of young artists can restore them in color and present them publicly; contributing to expressing gratitude to those who have contributed to the country and continuing the tradition for the younger generation”./.
