"Little teacher" Viet Minh always gives attention and love to children. |
Allocate time for studies and hobbies
Since childhood, Nguyen Viet Minh - a student of grade 8.1, Ly Tu Trong Secondary School (Pleiku City, Gia Lai Province) has been passionate about English.
To study well for Viet Minh, it is not only about passion but also about allocating time reasonably. Viet Minh tries to concentrate and memorize knowledge of subjects right in class. Taking advantage of recess, the male student studies and completes the exercises assigned by the teacher to reduce the amount of time spent reviewing at home. In his free time, Viet Minh enjoys reading books, watching movies, relaxing...
“My family always encourages and supports me in my studies as well as my hobbies and community activities. This is a source of encouragement and a solid foundation for me to try my best and complete my studies well. Whenever I encounter any problems, my mother is the one who consults and gives me useful advice so that I can make the right choice,” Viet Minh confided.

Sharing knowledge
Not only is Viet Minh good at English, he also shares his knowledge with the less fortunate in his spare time. Every Saturday morning, Minh goes to the Inspirational English Club - which is running a project to teach English to disadvantaged children at the Gia Lai Province Social Protection Center.
Here, Minh “transformed” into a teacher, teaching English to a group of 12-15 students from the Gia Lai Province Comprehensive Social Protection Center. Each lesson lasted about 90 minutes. Viet Minh directly taught the class, guiding students on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and communication practice.
Through the lessons, the “little teacher” trains the students’ listening and speaking skills by watching videos , listening to music or participating in games. Each lesson has different topics, such as: Greetings, self-introduction... to create excitement and make the students more confident and bold.
“At first, the students here were shy and did not dare to speak up for fear of making mistakes. To help them become more confident, I taught through games and often encouraged and praised them when they answered correctly. After a while, they also boldly spoke up and asked the “teacher” to explain the parts of knowledge they did not understand.

The class's lesson plan is also prepared according to the textbook, most of the time I will practice pronunciation for my students. I also have my own rules that students must know how to write and pronounce vocabulary and short sentences learned in the previous session. If they do not know the lesson more than 3 times, they will have to copy the punishment to raise awareness and improve the quality of the class", Viet Minh confided.
In addition to teaching English, Viet Minh and the club members often share and confide in each other to better understand the circumstances and feelings of students with difficult circumstances. Through this, the club encourages and motivates students to be more aware and responsible for their studies, especially English.
Ms. Tran Thi Kim Phung Thuy - Head of the Inspirational English Club said: The club was formed from the desire to supplement English for children, especially those in difficult circumstances. In addition to supplementing English, the project of teaching English to disadvantaged children also helps spread meaningful work to the community and creates an environment to practice English for members of the English club in particular and project participants in general.
“Nguyen Viet Minh has knowledge of foreign languages and teaching talent, so the club members trust and believe in him and elect him to the position of Vice Chairman of the club. During his activities, Viet Minh actively supported the project of teaching English to disadvantaged children,” said Ms. Thuy.
“Instead of being satisfied with my achievements, I hope to become a useful person for society. I want to create real values with my existing knowledge and skills, especially inspiring and teaching English to future generations,” Nguyen Viet Minh shared.
