Light the fire of gratitude

July has come, in the silent smoke of incense, the candles of gratitude are lit again at the martyrs' cemetery - the resting place of the best sons who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Continuing the tradition of drinking water and remembering its source, the youth of the whole province have been carrying out many meaningful activities in the month of gratitude with all their deep gratitude to the previous generation.

An Giang Police Youth Union coordinated with Viettel An Giang to carry out the 3rd Green Sunday in 2025 to change flowers on the graves of heroes and martyrs.

At 6:00 p.m. on July 21, more than 450 members of the Thoi Son Ward Youth Union, Tinh Bien Ward Youth Union and An Cu Commune Youth Union, and armed forces stationed in An Giang province were present at Doc Ba Dac Martyrs Cemetery, Thoi Son Ward to offer incense and light candles in gratitude to the heroes and martyrs. This is the resting place of more than 9,000 martyrs and on the morning of July 21, Doc Ba Dac Martyrs Cemetery welcomed 80 more sets of remains of martyrs who died on the Cambodian battlefield.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang Province, Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Youth Union Phan Duy Bang said: “Each incense stick and candle lit represents infinite gratitude, and is a reminder of our responsibility to follow in the footsteps of our ancestors. An Giang Youth vows to continue the revolutionary tradition of previous generations; continue to promote talent, intelligence, and youthfulness in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. At the same time, we vow to contribute our strength and intelligence to successfully achieve the goals of socio -economic development, national defense, and security, contributing to building a rich, beautiful, civilized homeland and country, worthy of the heroic sacrifice of heroes and martyrs”.

Looking forward to the month of gratitude in July, more than 80 members of the Hon Dat Commune Youth Union, Son Kien Commune Youth Union and the Youth Union of Division 4 organized a campaign to clean and decorate the grounds of the Hon Dat Martyrs Cemetery. Despite the unfavorable weather, with heavy rain lasting for more than an hour, the cadres, soldiers, members and youth still wore raincoats to cut grass in the cemetery grounds, clean the tombstones and statues of heroes and martyrs, and replace flowers on all graves.

Secretary of Hon Dat Commune Youth Union Truong Thi Phuong said: “Cleaning up the grounds of Hon Dat Martyrs Cemetery is part of a series of gratitude activities in the month of July. The commune youth union coordinates to organize activities such as offering incense, flowers, lighting candles in gratitude; visiting families of policy beneficiaries and families of people with revolutionary contributions.”

One of the meaningful activities to celebrate the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day by the youth of An Giang Police is to coordinate with Viettel An Giang to launch the third Green Sunday in 2025 with the theme "Youth of An Giang Police pay tribute to heroes and martyrs". Youth Union members of the Provincial Police, officers and employees of Viettel An Giang simultaneously launched cleaning and weeding around the graves of heroic martyrs at all cemeteries in the province.

Lieutenant Colonel Truong Van Quoc - Head of the Youth Department of An Giang Provincial Police said: "This meaningful activity reminds the youth in the force of the revolutionary tradition, patriotism, and the value of peace today. The youth of An Giang Police are always aware of their responsibility and determined to promote the tradition of building an increasingly rich and civilized homeland."

Years have passed but the great sacrifices of those who made the war will forever be remembered. Over the years, along with the revolutionary movements of the Youth Union, the movement of gratitude and remembering the source of water has been widely and strongly responded to by the youth of the province.

An Giang Youth participates in building, caring for, and beautifying memorials and martyr cemeteries; visiting, caring for, and supporting Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; helping lonely former youth volunteers in especially difficult circumstances; visiting, encouraging, giving gifts, and taking care of the health of wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, relatives of martyrs, and people with meritorious services to the revolution... That is the continuation of the precious tradition of our nation, the responsibility, the sacred sentiment, and the gratitude of young people towards previous generations.
