The "Knowledge Icebreaker" project is organized to support children with talents in chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology... around the world . A total of 70 students aged 14 to 16 from countries such as India, China, South Africa, Hungary, Armenia, Uzbekistan and Russia will participate in the journey.

“No country in the world, except Russia, has sent children to the Arctic. We have selected the healthiest children who are interested in natural sciences such as chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology,” said Tatyana Terentyeva, an executive at the Rosatom nuclear energy corporation. Rosatom operates the nuclear-powered icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy” (50 Years of Success).

Five years ago, the project focused mainly on Russian children. But this year, the project has become international. The foreign children participating in the project were selected through the World Youth Festival held earlier in Russia.

Accompanying the students on their voyage to the Arctic were renowned scientists, nuclear experts and researchers.

The ship will depart from the Arctic port of Murmansk on a 2,400-km journey.

Rosatom’s “50 Let Pobedy” is one of the world’s largest nuclear icebreakers and is also used for commercial tourism . Arctic tours typically last 13 days and start at $28,000.
