Creating a sustainable development ecosystem
In Vietnam, SCG currently has 28 member companies operating, with key investment areas including Cement - Construction Materials, Petrochemicals and Packaging. Enterprises such as Binh Minh Plastics, Duy Tan Plastics, Vina Kraft Paper or Song Gianh Cement, along with the Southern Petrochemical Complex (LSP), play a key role in promoting economic development and creating long-term sustainable value for the locality.
SCG is committed to enhancing the internal capacity of the Vietnamese economy based on the foundation of sustainable development. |
As a strategic partner in many countries, SCG promotes regional cooperation through forums such as the ESG Symposium and the Circular Economy Forum, with a focus on the ESG 4 Plus strategy. In Vietnam, SCG aligns with national goals such as Net Zero 2050 and attracts high-quality FDI, through innovation, responsible investment and strengthening community engagement, towards long-term sustainable development.
Aiming for long-term sustainable benefits
On the journey towards a low-carbon society, SCG focuses on technological innovation and developing environmentally friendly products. Typical examples include SCG Low Carbon – a cement line that helps reduce CO₂ emissions by 20%, and SCG Smartboard Ultra – a lightweight cement board that meets international environmental standards (EPD).
In the packaging and petrochemical sectors, SCGP and SCGC have also made strong transformations. Duy Tan Plastics has developed recycled Mussel products, while Binh Minh Plastics has launched environmentally friendly plastic pipe products, aiming for circular consumption and resource saving.
This innovation strategy is also prominently realized through the Southern Petrochemical Complex (LSP) project in Ba Ria - Vung Tau with a total investment of more than 5 billion USD. This is the first integrated petrochemical complex in Vietnam, providing 1.4 million tons of polyolefins/year for the domestic and export markets. Currently, SCG is investing an additional 500 million USD to convert production feedstock from naphtha to ethane, helping to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency. The project not only enhances the capacity of the domestic petrochemical industry but also strengthens the resilience of the regional supply chain, reducing dependence on external markets.
Along with technological innovation, SCG understands that people are the core driving force to realize sustainable development goals. 2025 marks the 19th anniversary of the Sharing the Dream scholarship program, providing learning opportunities for thousands of Vietnamese students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. At the same time, SCG maintains a transparent, multicultural and constantly innovative working environment. Its member companies in Vietnam are implementing a series of green initiatives such as smart factory models, emission audits and closed-loop production.
SCG promotes growth associated with social and environmental responsibility. |
Not only focusing on the Vietnamese market, SCG is gradually affirming its role on the ASEAN map through a series of strategic initiatives and activities. Synchronizing its business model with the development priorities of each host country, while proactively promoting public-private dialogue, shows that SCG is realizing a broad regional vision. SCG is becoming an important catalyst in the journey to create a sustainable, resilient and comprehensively developed ASEAN.
