The new Jaecoo J5 2025 has been introduced in the Malaysian market as a smaller option compared to its sibling J7. Previously, the pure EV version of this model was launched in some Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia and Thailand. The model on display in Malaysia is the version using a traditional gasoline engine (ICE). Positioned in the B-size SUV segment, the Jaecoo J5 has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,380 x 1,860 x 1,650 mm and a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. Compared to its competitors, this Chinese car model is slightly larger.
If you like the square shape, reminiscent of the luxury SUV Range Rover Evoque, then Jaecoo J5 will be a suitable choice. The car has a large grille with vertical bars connecting the headlights and LED daytime running lights. In addition, this Chinese brand's B-size SUV also uses traditional door handles instead of hidden ones like its senior Jaecoo J7 and has a pretty two-tone paint option. Inside the Jaecoo J5 is a 2-row interior with 5 seats. Here, the car is equipped with a vertical touch-screen infotainment screen that occupies the entire center area of the dashboard. The air-conditioning vents are more delicately integrated than the Jaecoo J7, creating a seamless feel. In front of the driver is a digital clock panel designed to be recessed into the dashboard. The J5's center console has a fairly minimalist design, with only a cup holder and a rear armrest for wireless charging. Meanwhile, the gear lever has been converted into a lever behind the steering wheel, freeing up space in the center console.
The Jaecoo J5's cabin is also less aggressive than the J7's. The car uses regular door handles, a simple dashboard, less patterns and less metal details. Pet-friendly materials are also equipped for the car's interior. The Jaecoo J5's amenities are quite diverse with an 8-inch digital dashboard, a 13.2-inch central touch screen with 2K resolution, supporting Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity and integrated karaoke features. In addition, there is the largest panoramic sunroof in the segment with an area of 1.45 m². Not only convenient, Jaecoo J5 is also practical with a luggage compartment of 480 liters, which can be expanded to 1,180 liters when folding the rear seats in a 60:40 ratio. In the sub-compartment under the floor is a spare tire. In the Malaysian market, the Jaecoo J5 will be equipped with a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine, with a maximum capacity of 145 horsepower and a maximum torque of 210 Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT automatic transmission. Fuel consumption is announced at 7.5 liters / 100 km according to WLTC standards.
This equipment is different from the Jaecoo J5 currently sold in the UK market. In the foggy country, this Chinese car uses a 1.6L inline 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing a maximum capacity of 147 horsepower and a maximum torque of 275 Nm, combined with a 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. In addition, according to Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia, the J5 has a MacPherson front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, which are quite rare in the B-segment SUV segment. Competitors of this model such as the Honda HR-V, Proton X50 or Chery Tiggo Cross all only use rear torsion beam suspension. The car is fully equipped with ADAS level 2.5 advanced driving assistance technologies such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system, etc. 360-degree camera is also equipped for this Chinese car model. Currently, the price of Jaecoo J5 in the Malaysian market has not been announced, but is expected to be from 120,000 RM (about 747 million VND).
