The leader of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association said that since May, durian export turnover has entered a period of strong recovery.
In the first 3 months of the year, Vietnam's durian exports were always at a very low level, with monthly turnover not exceeding 100 million USD. In April, durian exports only increased to over 100 million USD.
In May, durian exports began to recover, reaching 204 million USD. However, in the first 5 months, durian exports only reached 387 million USD, down nearly 58% compared to the same period last year.
By June, durian exports grew strongly, reaching more than 300 million USD. In July alone, durian exports are estimated to bring in 350 million to 400 million USD.
“Durian export turnover is estimated to reach more than 1 billion USD in 7 months,” said the leader of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, adding that Vietnam’s billion-dollar durian industry is regaining its export rhythm after the “shock” of the banned substances yellow O and cadmium.

Mr. Huynh Tan Dat - Director of the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), said that in recent months, durian exports have increased significantly, especially frozen durian.
According to Mr. Dat, from now until the end of the year will be the peak export period when the Central Highlands durian enters the main harvest season. This agency is closely coordinating with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) to promote exports.
Notably, at the end of June, a GACC delegation conducted field inspections at durian growing areas, packaging facilities and laboratories in our country.
Through the inspection, the GACC delegation highly appreciated the management and implementation of the solutions that Vietnam had committed to. At the same time, the delegation also committed to having a report to ensure smooth durian export in the last months of the year, Mr. Dat shared.
Previously, at the end of May, GACC officially updated 829 more durian growing area codes and 131 durian packing facility codes in Vietnam. By the end of May, our country had more than 1,400 durian growing area codes (excluding revoked codes) that were allowed to be officially exported to the Chinese market.
The expansion of this list of growing area and packing facility codes will facilitate the increase of durian exports to the Chinese market.
At the same time, the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development held talks with the Director General of China Customs. The two sides agreed to coordinate to remove obstacles in durian exports, opening a “green channel” for fresh fruit products during the peak harvest season, including durian.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam assessed that durian exports are showing positive trends. Because we have handled the problem of O-yellow and cadmium well. Therefore, from now until the end of the year, durian exports will regain growth momentum.
