With over 2 billion monthly active users, Instagram is one of the largest social media platforms in the world today. However, it is puzzling that Instagram does not have an application version for tablets running on Android or Apple's iPad.
Recently, after many years of user calls, Instagram has finally officially launched an application version for iPad.

Instagram app interface on iPad targets short video content to compete with TikTok (Photo: Meta).
However, the iPad version of the Instagram app will be slightly different from the smartphone version. Accordingly, the main interface of the Instagram app on iPad will directly access the Reels short video interface, a feature used by Instagram to compete with TikTok.
This move shows that Instagram is trying to attract TikTok users in the US, in the context that the social network TikTok may be banned in this country.
A list of Stories (user-shared content that only lasts for 24 hours) will also appear on the app's home page.
Users can switch to the “Following” section to see content shared by friends and accounts they follow on Instagram. Users can also choose to display content in chronological order, helping them not to miss new content posted on Instagram.
Meta also took advantage of the large screen on the iPad tablet to optimize the display space of the Instagram interface. Comments on short videos shared on Instagram will be displayed right next to the video being played.
The content of the sent message will also be displayed right on the Instagram interface, similar to the Facebook Messenger message interface on a computer web browser.
After launching the iPad version of Instagram, Meta representatives said the company will soon launch an application version for Android tablets.
Despite being launched 15 years ago, Instagram does not have a version for Android tablets or iPads.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, has explained that the social network does not have the human resources to develop parallel versions of the Instagram application for both smartphones and tablets. In addition, the large screen interface of tablets is not suitable for displaying Instagram's image and video content.
Now, in the context that the social network TikTok can be banned in the US at any time, it seems that Meta realizes that this is the right time to focus human resources on developing and optimizing the Instagram version for tablets, giving iPad users (and future Android tablet users) the opportunity to use Instagram on their devices.
