Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 series in September 2025 with many rumors surrounding the technology company launching the iPhone 17 Air alongside its usual products, according to technology news site Tom's Guide on August 3.
Leaked rumors from technology news site MajinBu reveal that the battery capacity of the iPhone 17 Air will be around 2,900 mAh, slightly larger than originally expected, and will be encased in a steel case.
Rumors have previously suggested that Apple’s ultra-thin phone will have a 2,800 mAh battery. While that’s only a 100 mAh difference, any extra capacity is a good thing for such a small battery. For comparison, the iPhone 16 has a 3,561 mAh battery.
Despite the small battery, reports suggest it can still last a full day thanks to improvements in battery life technology and some performance tweaks in iOS 26.
The small battery also fits with rumors that the iPhone 17 Air will be an ultra-thin phone, measuring just 5.5mm thick compared to the iPhone 16's 7.8mm.
If the iPhone 17 Air is really only 5.5mm thick, this Apple phone will surpass the 5.8mm thick Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.
Experts at Tom's Guide say Apple may not be the first company to launch a thin phone, but they are aiming for the thinnest.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to replace the iPhone 16 Plus in Apple's lineup. This means that when the new product launches in September 2025, Apple will still have four devices: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The iPhone 17 Air is said to have a horizontal bar-shaped rear camera placed in the center of the back instead of the traditional upper left corner, using only a single camera to ensure thinness and a 48MP wide-angle camera.
The iPhone 17 Air is also rumored to feature a 6.6-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, an A19 chip, 12GB of RAM, and a lightweight, durable body made of aluminum and titanium alloy.
This is considered a major design change after many years of Apple, replacing the previous Plus line with the expectation of creating a highlight for this year's smartphone line.
Current rumors say Apple will hold an iPhone 17 launch event between September 8 and 10.
There is no official information about the price of the iPhone 17 Air yet, but Apple may decide to keep the current price of $899 for the iPhone 16 Plus or raise the price to $999 if the company decides to increase the price of the iPhone 16 Pro to $1,099.
