On the morning of December 19, the acting chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province inspected the construction site and handed over the site for the construction of Quang Tri airport.

"The project is implemented in Gio Linh district with an area of 265 hectares. Up to now, the district has cleared 228 hectares of land and handed over 140 hectares to the investor," Mr. Vo Dac Hoa - Chairman of Gio Linh District People's Committee - informed.

Of which, the core area has been cleared to 135 hectares, this is the area for construction of important works such as runways, terminals, aircraft parking lots, air traffic control towers, etc.

Mr. Hoa said the district will try to hand over the entire core site in December 2024.

The biggest problem is that people who want a new resettlement area agree to move. The district has mobilized some households to temporarily reside while waiting for the resettlement area to be built.

To date, three households in Gio Mai commune located within the runway have been relocated and provided with temporary housing. In early December, the households still refused to relocate, preventing the contractor from constructing the runway.

Mr. Pham Xuan Hop - representative of the investor - expressed his desire to have a site soon for simultaneous construction. Up to now, the first concrete layer of the aircraft parking lot has been completed, preparing for the second layer. Documents for other items such as runways and terminals are awaiting approval and bidding.

Directing on-site, acting Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong requested Gio Linh district to strive to hand over all the land before December 28.

"Quang Tri Airport is of great interest to provincial leaders, people and other investors, who are looking into its progress. The province will support and meet the people's legitimate aspirations to the fullest extent. We request Gio Linh district to resolutely take action, investors to mobilize human resources, and speed up the construction process," said Mr. Dong.

Quang Tri airport is expected to be operational in July 2026.

Quang Tri Airport is invested by the joint venture of T&T - CIENCO 4, with a total investment of more than 5,800 billion VND. The airport meets level 4C standards and level II military airport, operates code E aircraft, and meets the needs of handling up to 5 million passengers/year and 25,500 tons of cargo/year.
