Hiup fake milk advertisement, editor Quang Minh and Van Hugo both said "I was fooled"

On the evening of June 19, BTV Quang Minh and MC Van Hugo took turns speaking out on their personal pages to clarify their views and responsibilities in the incident.

Before the Hiup milk case was prosecuted and announced as counterfeit, both BTV Quang Minh and MC Van Hugo were administratively punished for violations in advertising this product.

On June 19, public opinion was shocked when the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency decided to prosecute the case and temporarily detain the leadership of Z Holding Joint Stock Company - the unit behind the Hiup milk brand - to investigate two crimes: "Violating accounting regulations causing serious consequences" and "Producing and trading in counterfeit food products", according to Articles 221 and 193 of the 2015 Penal Code.

According to the initial conclusion from the authorities, the height-enhancing colostrum product “Hiup 27” does not guarantee the ingredients and nutritional content as announced. These products were manufactured from August 8, 2024 to March 5, 2025 at the factory of Nature Made Trading and Production Joint Stock Company. During that time, many famous people participated in promoting Hiup - including BTV Quang Minh and MC Van Hugo.

On the evening of June 19, both of them took turns speaking out on their personal pages to clarify their views and responsibilities in the incident.

MC Van Hugo wrote on her personal page: “I was deceived. It was not only a loss of honor, but also a feeling of having my trust seriously taken advantage of.”

The female MC said that she had agreed to promote this product after being provided with full legal documents and testing papers. She believed in those papers, as well as the actual effectiveness when her child used the product for many years. However, when she learned that the product showed signs of substandard quality from the August 2024 batch, she could not remain silent.

“I was administratively punished for ‘advertising Hiup milk in a way that confused its uses’, and then proactively asked the brand to stop using my image, and at the same time suggested that they invite the authorities to inspect the transparency,” Van Hugo shared.

It is worth noting that as of May 27, 2025, she still received the product inspection certificate that met the standards. But after the incident was exposed, she affirmed: “Now I understand: I was deceived.”

She also said she has worked with a lawyer to hold the business accountable and will pursue the matter to the end:
“I don’t run away. I take responsibility. And I choose to be transparent.”

Also on the evening of June 19, BTV Quang Minh also spoke out harshly: "I was deceived. And I chose to speak up."

He said that the cooperation in promoting Hiup is based on legal documents, standard certificates and scripts prepared by the business: "I do not produce, distribute, or test. I am the one who receives the promotion based on trust in the legal documents provided by the business and my children's long-term experience."

After being administratively fined for “exaggerated advertising”, he asked the brand to stop using the image and asked them to invite the authorities to verify. Even at the end of May 2025, he still received the test results from the Hanoi Food Safety and Hygiene Department allowing the product to be circulated.

However, in response to the new conclusion from the authorities, he affirmed: “I am not avoiding it. And I am working with a lawyer to sue the brand for deceiving me in this case.”

Before the Hiup milk case was prosecuted and announced as counterfeit, both BTV Quang Minh and MC Van Hugo were administratively sanctioned for violations in advertising this product. Specifically, in April and May 2025, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information issued decisions to sanction two famous figures. BTV Quang Minh was fined 37.5 million VND for advertising the Hiup product that did not match the content of the announcement file and used the doctor's name in the advertisement without legal confirmation from the person mentioned. Meanwhile, MC Van Hugo was fined 70 million VND for promoting the product with content that caused serious confusion about its uses - specifically, asserting that children drinking Hiup milk for 3-6 months can increase their height by 3-5 cm, exceeding the actual effects that were announced. Both were forced to remove the violating advertisements and correct the false information.
